I think you should just unplug your phone or turn the ringer off...If any relatives or friends need you, they`ll have your mobile number

different posters deal with things differently and I know a lot do turn off the phone etc., I personally dealt with all mine as they rang/wrote and kept them updated, all correspondence was sent to my IP too.

I normally pick up the phone to them when they ring, explain that I'm proposing the IVA and they go away for a day or two, although last night I had a slightly longer conversations with my pals at Lloyds because they kept trying to scare me with interest charges saying " you do realise that your being charged on a daily basis for this" and i pointed out that i did know this but they should feel free to stop charging me any time they wished, this was met with a bit of a comedy silence moment (I don't think that response was on their script).

Only people that keep phoning me are Lloyds, all my other creditors have been fine apart from a few letters, I'm obviously getting off very very lightly.

I did very similar to you Diddy and it worked for me. I also updated via letter and sent copy letters to my IP etc.,

Mercers do tend to be persistent. I used to get letters and phone calls almost daily. I wrote to them, told them I would only deal via mail, but it made no difference.

They do threaten you with debt collectors, but it is very rare that they turn up. Even if they do, you're not obliged to speak to them and once you tell them you're going for an IVA, they go away.

I never spoke to one creditor!! I never answered any phones calls, I never had any stress. What i did do is this

Comunicate by letter at all times.

I informed all creditors that I would not respond to them by telephones and warned them of my rights.

I informed them that I am recording all calls and frequency.

I did respond to all letters and quickly.

I bought a cheap pasy as you go mobile and informed all freinds and familly.

It worked!!!!

We were lucky with the phone as we had just taken out BT Total Broadband with broadband talk and so got a new number and we just unplugged the other phone.

As regards my mobile, all I did was put all the numbers Mercers/Barclaycard use into the phone, make my ringtone for those numbers the same as my text message tone so I could either just let it ring or cut the call off.

Barclays and Lloyds were my worst banks. If you haven't stopped paying them yet give all credit card companys and banks and ask for your land line and work numbers to be deleted. We said we weren't allowed to make or receive calls at work and that we don't use a land line in the house now just mobile. They deleted them without question. I gave them my mobile number instead. They were happy. I then received no calls at work or home number just mobile. It was ok even though I got a lot of contact centre automated calls I could put mobile on silent and choose not to answer. Good luck

Some interesting ideas.

Did anyone make pro rata token payments to their creditors?

Does this alleviate any of the hassle from creditors?

Many thanks.

Some posters do, but there is no guarantee that the hassle will stop, but it may do.

I only made one payment to Barclaycard, and a week later they were hassling me again, so I didn't make anymore.

Personally did not make any token payments at all. It would make little difference to them accepting the proposal anyway. Better off keeping the money and building up a contingency fund.

I found the calls started the moment I wrote to my creditors to tell them I'm going into a IVA.

Best to ignore them, as news of the IVA has gone through they should eventually stop.

The other option would be to get BT to change your number ;-)

Mine started as soon as I missed the payments.

I think it sometimes depends on the creditor. Some are worse than others.

We have BT chose to refuse, where you can bar numbers, and also anonymous caller reject where withheld numbers will not get through either.

Is this likely to infuriate my creditors, and initiate callers to the door?

Many thanks.

I did choose to refuse at first, but they do tend to change the numbers they call from.

It's not likely to make any difference.

I think within two days of my first non payment i had a call, and after that the calls and letters were a daily thing. i suggest unplugging the phone or just not answering - if you answer they try everything they can to get a payment out of you - dont be bullied, they cant take what you havnt got
