Be careful if you have had your card changed from Maestro to Mastercard. I was reading this week that many retailers haven't upgraded their software meaning that cards are incorrectly identified as overseas cards or credit cards (rather than debit cards) and charges are made.

Apparently Paypal, Ebay and Amazon were 3 of the retailers involved.

Not yet in an iva, both my partner and myself have natwest accounts. My partners creditors are Northern Rock loan, Halifax c/c, MBNA c/c, Tesco c/c, Mint c/c. Mint and Tesco are i think natwest. Was looking at this, this weekend swapping accounts to Alliance and Leicester, they give you 100 pound to swap. Only trouble it says could take upto 8 weeks to process. Any thoughts. My creditors Halifax, Lloyds tsb, Capital One, Mbna all c/c. Think my account will be ok.

Try the Co-op. It comes highly recommended and will be open in a matter of days rather than weeks.

You may find that Santander (who Alliance and Leicester are part of) won't open an account for you.

Not sure what they are like with IVA's.

You can try them, depends on whether or not you are prepared to wait.

As you are not in an IVA then the Co-op would probably give you a full account, and it would not take that long.

Personally I'd rather get a new account sorted out ASAP as it's one less thing to worry about.

Thought I'd update my attempts to get a debit card.

Not happening at the moment - Abbey turned me down for an account.

Going to wait a month and then apply to Clyesdale but not holding out much hope!

Hi the Norwich and Peterborough offer basic accounts with a proper debit card you can use any where. You have all the usual things except of course overdraft. But then again Iam sure an OD is last thing you or any of us want lol. Yorkshire bank also have a maestro card with their easycash account. let us know how you get on

Hi
I had a look on the Norwich and Peterboroughs website and they only offer cashcards to their basic customers

They also use Coop as their backing bank
