I have applied for an IVA in my name only, everything in my name, house, bills etc my parter has lived with me for nearly 4 years. Having read a few posts tonight I am a little concerned regarding my background statement. Having a re-read through tonight, I have used the term 'We' in terms of the holiday we had abroad etc, even though my partner always paid his way. He is concerned that even though he earns more than me and pays around 61 percent of his salary into the pot, he will be asked to pay more? Any advice would be welcome.

Hi Gettinghelp,
As long as your partner is not associated with any of your debt then there should not be any problems, one of the experts will clarify this shortly

thanks Keith, i did the background statement without showing it to him and when he read it tonight he was very concerned as he contributes more than me and the debts are all mine none joint and he was helping me pay some of them, which he no need have, then he was made redundant, hence the IVA for me as i couldnt afford the payments by myself without his help. Hes has been an absolute star regarding my debts, so i can understand his concern as the wording in the statement was not worded correctly,my fault in my haste to get all the relevant paperwork sent. Lets hope the professionals can shed some light on this to ease his concerns. Thanks

hey getting help
like anything although your partner and you have separate finances etc obviously when your chosen ip is going through your ingoings and out goings with you, your partners salary will only be of interest in terms of how this will affect how much youre paying eg if your partner pays most of the bills etc then it equates to you having more spare to pay towards the iva-if that makes any sense. he wont be asked to pay more just because he earns more but if your ip is aware youre living together then it will be purely to seeing who pays what and deciding on your spare income from that-not he earns more therefore he pays more. hope i havent confused you fd x

I thought I had it all sorted in my head at least and then he mentions this tonight and it thrown me a little as 4 years together is hardly a long time and Im asking a lot of him really.

GH stop beating yourself up hun x

when the ip does your ingoings and outgoings they will look at your partners salary but not in the way like "ok he earns so much more so you can pay more "
its more just to check theres equal distribution of the bills etc and obviously then if say one partner paid a little more than the other its just so the ip will know "ok then theres a little more spare for the iva"

please stop giving yourself a hard time. your partner loves you and sounds very supportive he wont be penalised in the way you think give yourself a break luv fd x
