There is a solution for everyone .... Just need to stay positive !
Hi everybody, would be interested if anybody has the answer to this question. My organisation is considering taking out public liability insurance, can I assume that this will be on an organisational level and not on an individual level, i.e. I won't be checked for my IVA status? I have not disclosed to my work colleagues that I have an IVA so am keen that I am not put through any checks.
LuluJ... what company was it that accepted you for public liability insurance after you spoke to them on the phone? Was it the AA? If so, do you mind me asking what your trade/profession is? I'd also really like to know the name and number of the person you spoke to.
Great news if that is the case. I am still worried that people have paid for a policy online without making the company aware that they are in an IVA though.
If the AA can indeed offer insurance to those in IVAs when you actually declare it rather than try and blag your way through online that would be brilliant and I'll be straight on the phone to them.
I think you will probably be ok if it is in the company's name. My employer has insurance and they know nothing of my financial situation.
I agree with you Matt that if you don't disclose this information when applying for it in your own name then you could find that you won't be covered.

Your policy might be a little different from what I am looking for.
Are you covered for damage to property? This is the one I am having trouble with. I can get cover for any injury to third parties, but not to property being worked on. I am a carpet cleaner, so obviously work in people's homes and really need to find someone who will cover me for damage to property.
Matt, you and Luluj need to add each other as frugal friends and you will be able to send a message that way.

Go to your profile, there is a drop down box for you to add Frugal Friends. Scroll down until you reach Luluj and add her. If she does the same then you should be able to contact each other.

If you feel that bankruptcy is a better option for you Harriet - isn't this still something you could do? Why do you think this is a better option as a matter of interest?
If you are looking for public liability insurance for both injury to third parties AND damage to property being worked upon, Towergate insurance can help you. It does, however, depend on how long your IVA has left to run.
If you are just looking for liability cover for injury to third parties Woodstock insurance are also quite accommodating.
A number of people on this forum have mistakenly advised others that you can buy liability insurance ONLINE through the AA and others because they do not directly ask about insolvency during the online application process. This is NOT TRUE. They do not ask directly, but it IS in their terms and conditions. Anyone who bought cover on the AA website (and others) and not over the phone having disclosed their IVA is not covered.
NONE of the well known insurance companies will touch you with a 10ft bargepole. I have been at this for weeks and it was only today that I finally managed to get full cover with Towergate.
I too don't quite understand what an IVA has to do with insurance, but for some reason, it has a huge bearing on your ability to get liability cover.
I urge anyone who bought online without speaking directly to someone on the phone and disclosing their IVA to check their policy documents very carefully or speak to their provider and check that they are covered.
The last thing you want when already in debt and in an IVA is a large insurance claim being made against you which you can't pay because you are not covered! It's not a risk worth taking.

Sounds like you've done your homework with results there Mattybaldy, well done you and great advice for other posters who require this type of insurance. xx
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
