Mitchymoo, we still have our Barclays account which is a full one but just keep enough in to keep it open. They were one of my creditors but not hubby's so I don't know if that made a difference. Nationwide is our main account.

Can't praise CO-OP enough. new account up and running. internet banking working. set up a savings account alongside and got the card for that as well got all my pin numbers and brilliant customer service. Nationwide is a pain setting up online banking and i've only just got my pin number so they will NOT be getting my business apart from the £10 i will put in to keep the account active just in case.....

So much praise for co-op. Think I might open an account in case I ever have problems with Lloyds.

I use Nationwide as I've got a full account with them, but I've kept my Co-op account open just in case and I wouldn't hesitate to use it again.

HI i have just been sent my draft for approval. all looks ok, am signing to go down iva path. deep down really don't want to can't believe it's come to this! my company have told me it would be advisable to not proceed until my new bank account is up and running. i too am having difficulity setting up a back account. applied with natonwide 10 days ago still no reply. went into co-op today told the application would be sent off, and that we would hear 7-10 days if sucessful. it is so frustrating.can't belive how diffucult is seems to be to get bank accout!!!!!!!!!!!!! feels like me and my husband are stomping through mud not able to get to destination.

If you have trouble setting up Nationwide or Co-op, you could try an account such as that offered by Secure Trust or Thinkbanking. It is a paid for account but you are guaranteed acceptance.

thanks for the info, i will look into it. i will leave it a week and keep all fingers and toes crossed that i hear from co-op. would much rather not have to pay for account, but will if needs must!isn't this such a stressful time, it is the uncertainty that i find hard to deal with.

Freddy, if you phone the CO-OP and go through all the usual details, you get the approval there and then. I told them i was applying for an IVA and the chap didnt even ask any more about it and then it was approved on the phone and card and details arrived within the week. A couple of weeks later and i'm up and running with a current account with a visa debit card, savings account with a cashpoint card, paying in book for the post office, envelopes to pay cheques in with and full internet access with telephone banking. might be worth a call?!?
