I think the DD side means if you buy something they can just take it out your bank account if you don't have the money in your Paypal account.
I am probably worried over nothing - I think its just with all the changes I am having to make moneywise - when i receive an unusual email it makes you think.

when you open a paypal account you usually set up a variable DD for them to draw fees and monies whenever needed. Generally ebay selling fees come out this way too (they are the same company). I am surprised they have tried to draw a payment if you haven't used them though.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

Yes I thought that which makes me think it might be spam...unless the bank contacts me, I'll never know...that bank account is part of my IVA with overdraft & credit card.

Good luck with your meeting!! Mine was 33p in £ so yours shouldn't be an issue. Might have missed it in a post but do you have equity?
I remember the day of my meeting I was really worried well it was for 18p in £. When it was approved with modifications I was so happy!!! It's the start of frugal living but a road to a clear outcome & a big lesson learnt.

Hi Langer,

Yes i've been told its quite a high return so hence I am hoping it will be accepted. Hopefully will have my meeting date next week.

Finally have the new bank account set up and running today - so just got to hope that my company HR/Payroll remember to put my salary at month end into new account - they have said they have changed it but I sometimes never have faith!..
All direct debits now changed to new account - never realised how stressful it could be changing everything.

I will feel bad at month end when my previous bank realise that no money will be going in but hopefully by then they will be aware of the IVA.

And no - I don't own my property ( renting) so there is no equity.

Hi Susie - sounds like you're all set to go! My bank refused all my requests for help and offered no suggestions of their own...so in a sense they contribute to our situations. Don't feel bad; they won't lose any sleep over you. xx

I remember this time! I argued so much with my wife. I was in tears several times. You will have your answer very soon & hopefully good news. All depends who are your creditors but your IP won't put a proposal together for it to fail. I changed banks & found it a long process & work didn't follow my first request but I managed to get the money out!!! Fingers crossed!

I am always getting phishing emails from Paypal. I just forward them on to their fraud department. Unless they actually address you by name in the email it is a duff one.

Personally I would not trust any links given in any emails. Even if they appear to come from a reputable source, always type the url of the bank or paypal into your web browser and login that way.

Also beware of anyone calling you up claiming to be from 'The bank' asking you to verify security questions before they speak to you about your account. They may give a reason, such as attempted fraud on your account, to create a sense of urgency so you panic and give details to the phisher.

If you need to speak to anyone, call them back on the number you have been given by the bank directly, or the number on the back of your debit card to be 100% sure your talking to the bank.
We're willing to wipe the slate clean, give you a fresh start. All that we're asking in return is your cooperation.

Hi Susie,

I had a similar situation with Paypal, i had an email saying they tried to take £24.23 in fees out of my bank account and it failed cause i had moved eveything over to my new account because it was one of my creditors.

I phoned paypal and asked what it was all about cause i owed nothing! They didnt know anything about it and asked me to send the the email to investigate. It must have been some sort of scam!

Good luck with the Creditors meeting, u will be fine, i offered 58p in the pound and got 100% approval!

I'm naturally suspicious - I never click on anything if I'm not sure about it. I get all sorts of emails to do with banks I've never had anything to do with!

As with anything - if you are not sure then check with the company allegedly sending the email.

Thanks - It never mentioned an amount only the last 4 digits of the bank account so that made me suspicious. I will send the emails to them and see what they say.

Were those digits correct Susie and did the email address you by name or just 'dear Paypal user' or something like that.

the digits were correct and the emails were addressed to me. the first said that they had tried to get money from my bank account - didn't say what amount but that my bank had declined it and they (paypal) had then removed my bank account. 2nd email said that the bank had disputed the DD they tried to take - again didn't say amount. I logged into the paypal account and there was no bank account registered ( although there had been previously) and there was still a credit card registered.
I've closed the account now but there was nothing showing on the transactions etc. I haven't used paypal for around 2 years as i had my credit card copied a few years back and was always a bit suspicious of it.

Just seems a bit strange - but there is only £14 in that account as i've now moved everything to me new account in preparation for the IVA.

It does actually sound like a genuine email from Paypal but you are right to query it. It would be interesting to know why they tried to take money out.
