Thank you for all your kind comments, I have been reviewing the situation in deep thought this afternoon as so has the hubby.
In light of all the following problems:
2 new front wheels needed.
Fuel Pipe lines eroded.
Exhaust found to be leaking.
Wheel arch rust damage to both side going into body work.
All above need to be done for the MOT.
Damage to rear now rusting & light tapped up.
passenger side wing mirror tapped on.
passenger door partly seized & only opens half way.
driver side window has become faulty / manual not electric.
previous water leaking from engine/reason not found.
All not need for MOT, but just don't justify us spending the money on it & fixing it anymore.

I feel partly to blame & partly let down, as we struggled through the first 18 months of our IVA barely making it through.
In the first 18 months we were told to pay 50% of everything we received that was extra income including payrises & tax credit increases. This resulted in us over paying. Recent annual reports states requested: 1099.33 & received 1447.00. Each review the overtime has always been over since we started the IVA.
We have never managed to save hubbys overtime as its only ever been an extra 30/60 pounds at a time, once we paid our share, & its always gone on the boys.
I feel like they will say tough you should of saved it up.
No idea what to do & a bit scared if Im honest in asking for 2/3 months payment break.
Sorry just needed to write it down in B&W & rant abit.

please don't be so hard on yourself, you have done fantastically well so far, something costly breaking down is a worry for all of us in an iva. i am sure your ip will be able to suggest something to help your situation. x

MrsKnight,
try not to worry too much, there are some bargains out there as previously stated.
Hubby and I have just managed to get our car through it's MOT (13yr old Ford Escort thats been round the clock almost twice) and we're aware that this is it's last MOT but we paid £300 for it 4yrs ago off ebay and it has done us proud, Ford's are cheap to buy and also cheap to repair,
I know my story is of no help to you today but try and keep your spirits up as you'll find something and it'll be better than you imagined you'd get for your money. xx
shy bairns get nowt, the worst your IP can do is say no!

So sorry to hear about your car - we don't realise how much we actually rely on them until something like this happens.

Would your Mum and Dad be able to help out with a modest loan until the IVA is over when you could pay them back. You can get some real bargains at car supermarkets for round the £1,000 mark and it would probably see you through the IVA.

Dear Lyns, Im so sorry to hear about you car. I like all the previous posters want to offer you support. I just wish I was a mechanic and then I will sort it for you. There must be someone on here that can help you out. If all of us contributed say a tenner, then you would have enough money. Perhaps the forum should try and start a support fund for its members, with no interest on the money lent from the fund. You have been of great support to a lot of people and I love reading your posts. Its tough being in a iva Rich xx

Nice idea Rich but doubt it would be allowed!

Maybe not, but I just want to help in anyway I can Jan. Why would it not be allowed Jan, as a matter of interest ?

For one thing it would be credit and the forum can't lend money to people who are insolvent. The logistics of administering it would be horrendous I imagine.

What happens as well if the IVA fails and the person has to go bankrupt? That money would be lost. If they went into another IVA then the Forum would become a creditor.

Plus, if you want credit over £500 I think, you have to get permission from your IP.

I believe you would have to be licensed as well.

Ok Jan, I can see where your coming from. Only way round it would be to gift the money and not as a loan. Lets hope that someone knows a mechanic that could do the work on the car for less !

Hopefully her parents can help out together with a payment break. She's had a bit of a rough time has Mrs K. She doesn't deserve all this bad luck.

Hi Forum,
After a few days of getting to grips & giving everything alot of thought, its also brought alot of tears & arguments with it too.
We took the car out again today to just to really give us peace of mind of what we were about to commit ourselves too.
3 garages honest opinions are to invest the money in another car, which we also felt & new deep down what we should do.
My parents are out living their savings now, if you understand the meaning! But Dad saw the trouble with the car coming & has offered to help us out, not as a loan but just a small amount to help.
After visiting the garages & & talking to my Dad, we also felt that a payment break would be needed.

I phoned up GT today, got straight through explained about the situation & explained I wanted to request a 2 month payment break & how I wanted to pay it back over the next 8 months in time for the 4th annual review.
***Request granted & authorized over the phone straight away!***
I was just in shock that GT were able to help so quickly! I asked if I had to phone back, she said no, its something I can do for you now, told me my payments of x amount would start in August & it would be cleared by March, in time for the review in April. I also mentioned if I had anything left, I would pay it back in, told no problem we will just adjust your payments accordingly, just give us a ring!
I'm not sure I will believe it until my payment does NOT go out next month.

We are a mix of emotions, happy we have the break, upset it has come to this, but can breath alittle easier with funds for the Car.
We know its not going to be easy, but we have survived this far on less, Im sure we can get through this x
Final IVA payment made in April 2013, never ever thought we could do it or get through it but we did! X
