Hi there,

We have recently had some issues with our car, so we took it into our trusted car gargage to see what the problems are!! Oh gosh there are problems.... New clutch needed, handbrake needs fixing. Possible gear box problem as car coming up to 99,000 k miles on clock!!

3 new tyres at £104 each. Mot and service in total to get through mot we need to pay around £1800!!!

We dont have this as everyone knows its tight in iva!!

Our trusted garage as said trade it in and put a small amount to a different car in good condition, Been to a car dealer they are happy to trade in.

We just need to put in around £800 which we have scrimped and saved through ebay, car boots etc.

Do I need to tell my iva provider im changing my car??
(sorry so long)
Thanks!!

Hi mitchymoo, nice to see you.

If you have the money to put towards another vehicle and it's not gong to affect your IVA then I'd say you wouldn't have to inform them.

Hopefully one of the experts can confirm but good luck with the new car, hope it last for a while.

Thanks Kallis,

I havent been on for a while!! Couldnt believe it when the car started to play up, It broke down last week. Then took it in for him to say that we need to spend minium of £1800 to fix but that is a Minium it could be an extra £1000+ as its is a bmw.

Im only bothered that if it broke down tomorrow i could not get my kids to school as there is no bus route. Ive been so worried and upset.

All the money we have saved is through being careful and also selling some of our unwanted stuff on ebay etc.

The car we have looked at is a family car 5 doors, fits its purpose to dropping children off going to work etc. Also only done 44k miles so will hopefully last us for the rest of the iva.

Iva's are great but i still worry every day!! The best things in life our free. I shall never have credit ever again!! I will be so glad when its all over with as im a nrevous wreck still :-( xx

Hi Mitchymoo,

I was in your situation 2 months ago with car repairs alone looking at being 1500/1600 before even going through a MOT & we knew it would fail on other things.
We had X amount saved up not enough to buy a good 2nd hand car for our needs. In the end we took a 2 month payment break to help towards funding a car. We had about 1000 to play with it & really struggle to find something, luckily my Dad gave me a few hundred extra which opened up more cars to us.
I found our IVA company very sympathetic, authorized the payment break straight away & all they required was a receipt when we bought the car, in case the creditors wanted to know why we took the break.
We are repaying the 2 month break back alittle each month & will be cleared in time for our next review April 2012.

I would see what you can get for your money & way up what you need & want from a 2nd hand car, as you just may need a 1/2 month break to enable you to get something that little bit better.
Final IVA payment made in April 2013, never ever thought we could do it or get through it but we did! X

Hi Mrs Knight,

We have found the car paid £50 deposit on it and can collect on friday. All figures work out maybe we got alittle less on our car but no one will touch private if they knew it needed at least 1800 spent, so really our figure was a good figure.

We have put cash aside for rainy day though wheeling and dealing on car boot sales etc and ebay, sold things like clothes, kids stuff etc.

Just wasnt sure we needed to inform iva or not....No credit being taken only our saved cash through saving, oh and our birthday money saved!!!

I knew it was going to happen, I said to my husband 'All we need is the car to go'

I would rather put the money to a newer less presige car with less mile, knowing it will be safe, reliable and cost effective.

Its a car at the end of the day they all go from A to B, All i want is to get to work and back, school and back :-)

Husband wont take a payment break as we have the money saved, as he said that was the whole point of saving it x

Personally, if you are not going to need a payment break and it's not going to affect your payment then I don't think you will have a problem. I wouldn't bother you IP with it but that's just me.

It's up to you whether or not you inform them.

No worries, glad you got sorted. but it is good to know that payments breaks are there for these things that can & do go wrong.

Glad you got it sorted out, our car is only to go to work, shopping, hospital appointments for myself, hubby, 2 boys & my parents! practically a taxi half the time!!
All our local dealers only had cars from 3000 mark, so we had to go through auto trader, gumtree, 2nd hand car dealers 40-60 miles away. And it was really hard to find a car without millions of miles on the clock, with short or no MOTs.
The old car was valued in its sorry state at 150quid! We found a few cars that we wanted to go look at etc, but with having to find the time to travel, time of work we lost out on all of them. We did luckily find one & it had just come in, so the dealer held onto it. We bought it & traded ours in taking 300 off the asking price, very scary driving a new car on motorways we did not know home!

Im very pleased to hear you managed to save, we have had such a rocky journey, that saving has sometimes been impossible, so well done x

No need for your ip to know about the car change as it isn't going to affect your ability to make your iva payments.

Can't remember who you are with mitchymoo - it's usually the last three months payslips, possibly your latest P60 and a new I&E and possibly bank statements. Make sure that your new I&E reflects all increases in expenditure.

Thanks Mrs Knight,

Luckily our car was worth a few grand so we got this one reduced plus 12 month mot and service being done on it, its only done 44k miles so im really pleased. Plus purchased through a well known car dealer in the uk.

It has been difficult to save but this is through birthday money, n selling stuff - good if u have the time to do!

Hope things start to work out for you, Im hoping so ;-) xx

Thank you mitchmoo, we have got this far, so Im sure we will be fine!

The one we bought had a full MOT & service, just had to pay the tax, but that seemed to be the case with alot of 2nd hand car dealers.

We do sell on ebay etc, but that is usually to fund "Santa" for the boys at Christmas!

I agree with Jan & Paul, its money you have saved, I cant see the need to bother your IP.
Lots of Luck with your 1st review, Im sure you will be fine x
