Hi Joanna - speak to your IP to see if you could get a short payment break to help fund the uniforms.

I think you should be allowed a payment break to purchase the uniform. Schools really annoy me regarding this.. both my niece and nephew have to get theirs from 1 shop and costs sis more than £200 a year, whereas Asda and Tescos etc sell stuff that is good enough. Schools should realise that people are struggling. Sis is gonna refuse this year and if the kids get sent home so be it.
I have just authorised a lower payment for one of my clients so she can purchase her son's school uniform as he is moving from a primary school to the high school. Hopefully your IP will do the same for you.
We have a similar problem with uniform, in that all the schools here wear green or blue ( ASDA and Tesco, stock loads of green, blue and even red, uniform items) ... except ours, which is purple !!!!
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

My daughter is starting high school in September so thats a full uniform/sports kit etc, middle son not so bad just needing need trousers and shirts but my eldest needs a new business suit plus extra trousers and shirts. The business suit is the killer but hopefully Hubby will have a decent bonus this month to fund this. I feel sorry for anyone having to fund these items from normal allowances. Lets hope that the IP's are as helpful as Mel x
I think with school uniforms being essential for all children attending school it should be a seperate item on the I&E for each and every child you have attending school.£16 per month over the year should help?
I know we get some money for clothes for the kids but school uniforms is something they cannot go without and it puts a lot of parents under pressure to get it as well as keeping them in normal clothes.

i agree school uniform is so expensive. for our comprehensive school they encourage you to buy the lot direct from the school, and they are far more expensive than at the supermarkets, so i only buy the things with logos that i can't get any where else. even this all adds up, jumpers, sweatshirts, skorts, gym socks, polo shirts- summer ones and gym ones! without everything else. yes its an expensive time of year.

I think there should be an allowance included in IVA I&E for school unform for those people taht need it. My son is going up to secondary school in september and i have just spent just over £100 on his uniform because all the uniform he needs has to have the school logo on it, including pe kit, tracksuit etc. That was with 10% off everything as it was discount day and we haven't even brought school shoes and stationary etc yet. I'm lucky in the respect that my mum and dad paid money towards it but i can appreciate where some people may struggle.
