I can only agree with the comments that a problem shared is a problem usually solved. Many of my own clients tell me that they took weeks or months to pluck up the courage to call, but you will rapidly know that this is the right thing to do to hand those problems over to someone else to deal with for you.
If you wake up feeling ill one morning you may just have a day at home to see if the issues passes. After another couple of days you may go to the chemist to get some medication to help, and if the problem persists you will eventually go to the doctors - who will be able to tell you what is wrong and set a course of treatment specific to your ailment. Debt problems are actually very similar, and once diagnosed and a course of treatment prescribed, you will then get better.
Hi Kate.k8 and welcome to the first steps of a brighter life. I am not sure whether I am allowed to write this as I know there are loads of really good companies out there that will help you with your debt problem, however, I can recommend Melanie Giles and her team 100% from first hand experience.
I thought I was alone when I first made the call to Melanie, there was no-one out there with debts as large as mine, and no-one could possibly have felt more ashamed than I did, and I truly felt that the people on the end of the 'phone talking to me were probably thinking that I was another irresponsible idiot who had overspent and got myself in trouble. Well, how wrong I was. By visiting the forum and getting some wonderful advice before making my move to call Melanie, I realised that there were many many people out there with problems as large and worse than mine. Melanie was completely non-judgemental when I spoke to her, and she made me feel so much better. When I put the phone down after speaking to her, I actually burst into tears, because I was so relieved that someone had listened to me and was prepared to help me when I was feeling so desperate. So think carefully about which company you go with, whichever you choose will be the correct one for you, but I would recommend giving Mel's team a call, just to put your mind at rest for some real sound advice.
Best of luck with your journey, I am sure you will soon feel a whole load better.

There is light at the end of that dark tunnel. Promise.
I would recommend Debt Free Direct; they have been great with me amd when I had a problem ie 1 year in I lost my job and buried my head out of panic, but then got another job earning alomsot 50% less, they helped me with a variation and yes the agmnt was extended by 12 months + 2 months for arrears, but this helped me avoid being made bankrupt.
Reviews are fair and completed very quickly ie posted all info back on Friday and they rang me on the Weds morning to say all ok.
Couldn't wish for a more understanding & helpful IVA company.
Best of luck

Just remember that VB charge 2 months fees for their help. Some people will appreciate the help, some will want to go directly to an IP.
They didn't charge me a penny.
Otherwise known as "Tom". [:)] IVA proposal currently being drafted by Liberta Financial.
Vincent Bond do come recommended on here but they do charge as they will do the initial legwork and pass you on to an IP.
