Existing upgrades will be fine as I changed phone and broadband over to Sky during the IVA as I had the TV. I believe others have taken out Virgin with no problems.

I think freesat is easy to set up if you have a dish already,i would go for that rather than pay a monthly subscription.

I much prefer the extra channels I can get by paying. We don't go out at all and I do like to watch movies and sports (depending upon what they are of course!)

We have Sky basic package and record sometimes, I could definitely live without it as I don't watch films or sport but hubby does....although he doesn't have sports channel thankfully or he'd do less than he does now!
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

We love the documentaries as well and both of us love cricket and motorcycle racing.

I cancelled Sky pre IVA and went back to them about two years into the IVA with no problem. Sky was doing an offer of free Sky Plus box and free installation. I pay £31.75 per month which includes Sky Sports 1. As other posters have said, we don’t go out much, don’t smoke and rarely drink so it’s our main source of entertainment.

Thanks very much for all your input guys. I don't often post on here, but I do come on to see how people are coping etc. It does really help to know others are in the same situation as you. Anyway, I will give it a go and see how I get on. Fingers crossed. When I fisrt gave SKY up pre IVA they badgered me constantly to come back, but since my IVA I haven't received any calls so that's why I was wondering how successful I would be. Like you say it's worth a try, even if there is a credit check. I will let you know how I get on. Thanks again.

I cancelled sky as a cost cutting measure before my IVA, fruitlessly trying to save pennies to pay bills. Until recently i hadn't missed it at all, 6 years down the line 4.5 years into my IVA i got an offer from Virgin for Tivo £13 a month on the XL package, i couldn't resist. I now get to catch up on sport with free ESPN and Eurosport and the other half gets her rubbish US tv she likes.

We have multi room which my daughter pays for - she watches her rubbish and her fiance watches the football on that TV. We can sit and watch we like now!

Sky sounds good if you are really into sport - which i am not, was looking a few months ago into it, by the time you broadband and basic package etc worked out about £45 per month.
I still do the Freestat stuff - it offers everything i would watch without the subsciption.
Each to their own !!!

Quite agree Ginger. We don't watch all sports but do like our documentaries and films as well. I'd be lost if we had to go back to just a few channels now.

We have our broadband and phone through them as well and it is so much cheaper (and more reliable!) than BT ever was.

Good morning all,
I think sky maybe loosing a lot of customers, as people tend to drop sky to cost cut, i know i did, last November i moved house, left fulltime work and went partime in less than a week.

Since then sky have been emailing me to come back with a great offer of 1/2 price for a whole year, i wish i could take them up on the offer but don't think i would be accepted as my wife,(We got married at Chester Zoo in June), already has a package with them.

Thankyou David.

Hi David,

If they would give you this package then your wife could always cancel hers so you could take them up on it.

Worth a try!
