My debts are in the region of 24,000 - I am in rented accommodation I am in receipt of working tax credits one of my creditors is my bank! I am worried that they will take my maintenance every month regardless of whether i enter into an IVA if they do this I will then become homeless
I have been advised to open another account but is this legal

Christine - yes - you can open as many as you want - however Co-op/Barclays/Natwest + others are recommneded - the sooner you do this the more choice you may have (however no OD) if you planning to enter a debt management plan - dont use HSBC -there not friendly as far as IVAs etc

Oh welcome to the forum

Welcome from me as well.

Don't touch First Direct either.

Nationwide are fine as long as you open the account pre iva. I think they have tightened up otherwise.

Co-op is probably the best one if they're not a creditor and you should open the account as soon as possible.

I might add that I have two cashminder accounts at the co-op and they didn't bat an eyelid!

It's what your IP will recommend and remember to change all your standing orders/ direct debits that come out of the account and also inform tax credits etc., of the new account number for any monies to be paid into. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
