Nothing too ostentatious for us.
Maybe a slightly bigger house in a nice part of town, I have always thought it would be pointless moving into a "millionaires row" as you would have nothing in common with the people around you.
Wouldn't even buy a flash car, not a car fan really, as long as it starts when i turn the key.
It would be nice not to feel my heart sink when the gas bill is due.
I would set my girls up however, and try to spread the good fortune around a bit.
We are both sun worshippers, so a villa somewhere hot would be nice.
If money were no object I would sponsor a room at the hospice where my mum died and name it after her.

OT I have long had the same ambition, although I was thinking of an oncology ward, or sponsoring a few Macmillan nurses with a bursary.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

I would make a donation to the local hospice and also the local charity that Harry was adopted from.

I wouldn't build my own house, I'd buy an old cottage close to a village but without any close neighbours but lots of animals.

Nice idea Foggy.
Mum didn't live long enough to need the Macmillan's unfortunately.
Unlike my debts, we could never pay back what the hospice did.
If the lottery gods don't smile on me i will try to leave some thing for them when i shuffle off this mortal coil.
Sorry to drag the thread down.
Would be nice to have the funds to travel to London to see the top shows, tickets to Wimbledon for Mrs Torch, the Open Golf for me.

My dream home wouldn't have to be massive - but here's my list ...

Firstly it would be detached so we could get rid of the terrible noisy neighbours we have now...

It would probably be built with a green oak frame and have lots of exposed wooden beams throughout.

I'd have solid wooden floors all the way through with a huge play/family room with huge shaggy rugs all around.

I'd have made to measure curtains and blinds - oh what a luxury!

I'd have a kitchen you could swing a cat in and one where if you bent down to look in the oven you wouldn't hit your bum on the counter behind.

I'd have one of those special taps that gives instant hot water for brews!

I'd have a garage - for junk - and a spare garage for the cars!

I'd have a lap pool so I could swim at home.

I'd have a washer dryer that didn't shake the house apart when it was on spin!

I'd never be scared of the next household emergency as we'd have money to repair and maintain it.

My little girl would have a large walled garden to run wild and play in.

But most of all I'd have peace of mind that bills would be paid, costly problems could be solved, and that all my family and friends had also been gifted money by me to make their (financial at least) worries go away.... the best bit of all for me...

One day - fingers crossed! [:I]

Aww peeps some lovely thoughts and ideas there. I wouldn't just give to charities I would actively seek out hospices and small charities struggling to survive and desperate for a sponsor to allow them to continue their worthwhile causes. I would want to see my money all going on the causes and not being swallowed up in administration fees or top director bonuses.

I would also make a list of people who have impacted positively in my life who I know would benefit from a bit of luck and a little treat so they can maybe have that holiday they've wanted for years or can get that new washing machine and fridge they've needed for so long or even to help use as a slight top up to their income for a while to pay for the essentials. I would feel good helping those I care about and know are decent working human beings that work hard to care for their families. A lot of charity goes to people who are visibly disabled, suffering terminal illness etc and that is great to support those but I am a great believer that your every day run of the mill worker could cry themselves to sleep living from pay check to pay check and I see nothing wrong with giving people like that with a nice break from the worry even if it's just for a little while

If it's that big you could employ a gardener!!
When we lived near Newbury there was a house we used to drive past regularly and the owner was always driving around the large front garden on his mower, and from that day I always said to myself one day that will be me.

Don't have a mower at all now coz we have no grass at this house!

We have a very small lawn at the front of the house and artificial grass in the back garden. Much better with the dogs as we can hose it down and it doesn't end up like a quagmire when it rains!!

I have a communal garden as I am in new build flats but if I was rich I'd have my own gardener, cook, chauffeur, maid and masseur lol

I've already got most of those - my hubby does everything but massage and no way would I let him do that after he made my bad back a lot worse some years ago after massaging it!!

I love a good massage it's lush. If I had someone else cooking for me I could stick to healthy meals so much easier and get trim. They could make healthy meals but jazz them up for me without it eating into my hectic schedule I would have playing badminton, swimming, being massaged and socialising lol

so if i had done all the correct and proper bits like helping family/charities etc and was able to choose my home.....

it would be set in approx 30 Acres of farmland, approached along a tree lined avenue of blossoming cherry trees ( im planning on being so rich they would blossom continously!!lol), with post and rail fencing. Grazing these lush green fields would be my selection of horses- my greatest passion, which i currently fore go whilst in the iva :(
the gravel drive would sweep around a wide arc and the house would come into view. looking like a traditional farmhouse. with beautiful hanging baskets tumbling

double width honey oaked doors would open into a light double heighted entrance hall. with sandy coloured flagstones.

downstaris there would be a huge kitchen which would encorporate a traditonal 4 door aga, big belfast sink, beautiful handcrafted cream cabinets topped with granite worktops, and the other end of the kitchen there wouldbe a well worn "country chic" table to seat 8, somewhere for family life to take place, and a comfortable sofa- this room would be the real heaqrt of the home- somewhere to cook and chat and catch up on one anothers lives. This would lead out into a boot room/utility for our wellies and coats. then leading out through a stable door into a courtyard kitchen garden, which as a sun trap would have table and chairs set.

From the boot room you can access the single story wing of the property, housed in here in the pool area, a large free form pool , complete with slide and jaccuzzi.

A lounge big enough to accomodate all my close family, done in rich warm colours and big comfortable sofas- a real open fire as a focal point, leading through to an orangary- somewhere to catch the late evening sunshine. which in turn would have double doors leading out into the kitchen garden.

A dining room that could seat 16, so when my family visit we dont eat in shifts!! this room wouldnt be used very often- most informal family meals would be shared at the kitchen table.

An office to keep all our important papers- big enough for two desks, so my husband doesnt keep messing mine up!!

A masculine grown up, " playroom" where hubby can have his playstation/cinema surround sound etc

back by the front door there would be a downstairs wc/cloakroom.

the wooden staircase would have a half landing and then turn through 90 degrees to the second floor.

All the doors would be handcrafted and match the honey coloured wood of the windows and front doors.

Upstairs there would be 4 double bedrooms each with ensuite, ours would have double aspect with windows front and back, allowing views accross the grazing horses to the woods that border our property....

there would be a smaller less obvious set of stairs that lead you up once more to a large attic room- this would be the childrens den! decorated to match there interests/ages

accross the kitchen garden a path leads you past the manicured and well tended lawn and beds ( the gardner would maintain!) towards a traditional stable block, set around a courtyard. you enter through the archway under the clock tower. All the woodwork around the stable block is painted royal blue. theres 8 large airy stables that look out onto ane another, each with tradtional stable doors, but also with opening windows in the back walls, allowing any stabled horses a view at all times. A large tack room, Hay barn and horsebox storage area complete the block. there is a large archway leading out into the parklands, as you look accross the rolling pasture you can see the menage to exercise the horses, the post and rail paddocks, some with grazing horse, some left resting and some growing hay- all giving the children hours of fun to run and explore... a track runs the perimeter of the fields , somewhere to hack on the horses, leading you towards the woods that border the stream at the foot of my land....

off to the otherside of the stable block is a triple garage to house my husbands ever changing love of cars- me i drive a landrover discovery. climb the stone stairs to above the garage and you will find my workshop- here i would continue to design and make the wedding cakes that i currently do- just on a much more selective and grander scale.

now i just need my numbers to come up! oh to wish
