Had a car accident yesterday. There was an exhaust backbox in the middle of the motorway, car in front nudged in my direction and I ended up going over it. Front wheel smashed off, managed to control the car and get it on the hard shoulder.
Basically going through the insurance so there's an excess to pay so I need to ask for a payment holiday for this month only. I've called GT but no one answered the call and an agent logged me in for a call back. Experience tells me I wont get a call back. Payment is due 28/05/2012. Shall I just cancel my DD and then hope it gets approved? The longer I leave it the less chance I have of cancelling it.
I havent missed a single payment in the past

Hi, good to hear that you are ok, not so good RE the car. Tough one to call, but is it worth persisting with phoning GT, despite the promise of a call back, just pester them until you get through.
Not sure what the consequences of not paying your DD would be
Sorry to hear about the accident..glad you're ok though! As other posters have said, keep trying GT, hopefully you'll get through soon and get the answer you want! Keep us posted

I never understand this, why is it our responsibility to keep chasing our IP ?. If we make the effort to call or email our IP, and ask our IP to contact us and they don't, why should we have to keep chasing ?.
I never phone my IP as it's rarely convenient for me to do so. I also much prefer email, as at least that way there's a properly documented record of any correspondence. If, as I did early yesterday morning, I send my Case Officer a detailed email regarding a breach of my IVA and ask that Officer to either email me or to phone after a certain time when I know I will be free to talk, and the Officer fails to do either, then as far as I'm concerned I've done my bit.
Because I couldn't wait any longer for a response I simply took action to cease the immediate breach (i.e. by arranging to pay money back I shouldn't have borrowed) at the expense of not being able to make my next monthly IVA payment.
Whilst I don't expect my Case Officer to always be able to answer a call or respond to an email within 5 minutes of it being sent, given that I am paying a small fortune in fees and the issue I was raising is directly related to a breach of my IVA and thus would surely be deserving of urgent attention, and not some minor triviality, I expect a better service than I feel I get, and I feel no obligation, if I have taken the first step and made the effort to set out my position in detail to my IP, to keep chasing for a response.
Still no response from them. Sent an email too putting IVA forum in the title.
I bet they'll be straight on the blower when they don't get the payment from my bank.

You need your car so there should be no problem cancelling the direct debit. However, hopefully they come back soon and agree not to call the payment which would mean you did not have to restart the DD next month.
Wannabedj - I am glad your are ok after yesterday, there will no problem helping you out with a payment break. I apologise that you have had difficulty getting through, and we don't appear to have received your email. Would it be possibl eto re-send to ivacustomerservices@uk.gt.com?
I look forward to hearing from you and resolving any issues today,
Karol

I am paying a small fortune in fees
I am afraid I may cause some conflicting views on this statement, but I am going to stick my neck out anyway and say that, I disagree that you are paying a small fortune in fees.
The money you are paying goes into a pot which should go to your creditors. Your creditors have agreed for your IP to take some of this pot as fees for administering your IVA, so in essence your creditors are paying for your IVA. If you were not in an IVA, then you would be paying this money over to your creditors until the full balances of your overdue accounts plus interest are paid back. As it is, most people are still likely to have a substantial amount of debt written off, which would not happen if you agreed a repayment plan with your creditors.
They never called me and to be honest I'd be surprised if they did tomorrow. I'm not wasting more money on calling them. When they don't get the ££ on the 28th I'm sure they'll be on the blower to me straight away.
Its a shame really as when you do actually get to speak to someone they are really helpful.
