Hi! I'm with the nationwide and have a cash card account! My husband went in and asked about upgrading to a flex account as we completed our iva's in feb and got a big fat no! We hav never been overdrawn in the 5 years we have held an account! In fact we always have money left over! He said that as we hav had an iva they would not consider us for anything other than a basic account! Not good atal so we now have a Barclays account with visa debit cards which can be used anywhere even abroad!!! My advice..... Avoid the nationwide!!!

We have a cashcard account with Nationwide - it's the basic flex and was upgraded from a cash card to a debit some time ago - we have never had a problem since we got that - we can use it anywhere.

Must be our branch then :(( we have run the account very well! The cash card account can be used as a debit card anywhere in the uk but not abroad! That's why we wanted to change! Barclays account is much better for our needs!

We had the basic flex cashcard account years ago - would not give us anything else and the card could only be used in cash machines.

They upgraded it to a debit card and we've had no problems but have never used it abroad. When we've been away over the past couple of years we have used cash.

We also have a full Barclays account but use that as a secondary one at the moment.

Ah yes that is the same account as the one we had! U cannot use the card abroad and when we explained this they basically said tough!! Either take cash or travellers cheques! We didn't want an overdraft facility or anything other than the flex account but were treated very harshly by them as in attitude and manner in which he spoke to us! We honestly came away feeling like total criminals!

We're not bothered about usng the account abroad, we have had had only two holidays (both funded by family) since being in the IVA. Both have been fully inclusive so we've just taken a little spending money in the local currency.

We've always been quite happy with the customer service from Nationwide.

We have a basic Lloyds Account...no overdraft, debit card etc...but the really annoying thing is you can on, get money from a Lloyds cashpoint.
I tried upgrading the other day online as we had our F&F accepted, so thought it time to make some changes...and it was refused.
Maybe I should try ringing them...but I am always worried it alerts them to being in an IVA and they take the Account away...even though we've had it 4 years with no problems!

Hi Greg, did you ring them or visit your local branch/
i called them and was put through to a separate team which deals with account upgrades, initially they wanted me to go to branch but i didnt fancy that, so they did the application over the phone and today i got everything.

We're with Nationwide - good debit card, never had a problem using it and can use cash machines anywhere - doesn't have to be link machine.

Excellent customer service as well.
