Your cover must have been Third Party Only or Third Party, Fire and Theft I guess?

nope, fully comp. It as a brand new Audi - my baby lol !

It should have cost around £4k to repair, but luckily I found a garage who were able to do it for £1800.

Still, not cheap mind !

They should have still done the repair and paid for it then. It would just have cost your excess and affected your no claims (if unprotected)and gone down on your renewal as claim against your policy.

I remember writing letters of complaint, then tried to cancel my policy to go elsewhere and they tried to charge me for leaving early and all sorts.

It was not a good year !!

Yeah they've pulled a fast one. Fully comp covers you no matter what unless you have somehow broken the terms and conditions of your policy. Such as saying you keep it in a garage but it was parked in the road and it was hit.

That said it'd be rare for them to pull you up on it and harsh.

Who were you insured with, they sound like cowboys. Did you complan to the ombudsman about it. They owe you the money for the claim and compensation in my book. Although any monies would be a windfall under your IVA so would go into that.

I was with Tesco at the time it all happened and did cite I would complain to the ombudsman, but they did not seem to care.

I do keep my cars in the garage, and have business use cover as well (do around 1800 mile per month, and the smash happened while i was in an appointment, and my car was parked in a public car park. NCp got the CCTV for police, but they gave up pretty quick.

I spent a fair few quid on phone calls too, which was annoying, then got so fed up i told them where to go.

Needless to say, i have never been with Tesco insurance since.

I worked for Tesco Motor Insurance Claims for 6 years and am shocked as the staff were never that dense when I was there!!!

As a point of principle I'd make a complaint to them to look into again and see if you can talk to someone who is not a blithering idiot.

I see no reason for them to deny a claim at all. They should have paid out that money. It is up to you if you follow it up.

Even if you do not have the policy number just call up with the car reg and they can find the record still on the computer. Ask to speak to someone in claims and if they still give you the same answer complain to the Ombudsman.

I am more than happy to act as unpaid consultant on this for you lol. OK you will not see any of the money but at least it's better in your creditors pockets than that lying, cheating bunch of idiots!!!!

Why am I not suprised you were with Tesco? They are the worst insurer I've ever had to deal with! My car was written off and I had a really hard time getting a settlement from them.

Did not end employment on good terms Luke ??

Thank you for the offer - i may look into this again next year.

I was just glad to get my car fixed at the time !

Skippy - I went with Tesco as they seemed to give the same cover as Aviva and Aa at the time, needless to say, each time I called regarding anything, I seemed to always get the person who appeared bored on the end of the phone, and who never had the same information given twice.

Not all staff are like that - having worked in customer service all my life, their are always those who want to do the bare minimum, compared to those who go above and beyond !

For the most part I quite on good terms but did get sick of working with muppets. As you say MrsR it comes down to those who are good at the job and those who are bad.

I used to say in the Customer Service Area, 40% of staff were useless and needed sacking, 40% were in the middle and mostly OK but sometimes bad and the top 20% were the excellent ones who went above and beyond.

I'd like to think I was in the 20% lol. I think that is reflected in that my old boss offered me a job a few months ago to come back (Left 5 years ago) but the money was not good enough.

Mrs R, I had the same problem every time I phoned up! I had the accident on New Year's Day and when I tried to report it I was told to phone back the next day. When I did that the person I spoke to wanted to know why I hadn't reported it the same day as I had the accident!

They also couldn't find my car (it was outside my house) and couldn't understand why it wasn't towed to a garage, despite no garages being open on New Year's Day!

The final insult was when, 6 weeks after the accident, they couldn't pay me as the file was missing! Needless to say I went ballistic and strangely enough it turned up!

Never again!

Hi, thanks for everybody's replies! Husband has spoken to the insurance company today (AXA), they were very good and have set the wheels in motion for our car to be repaired. Apparently they can't waive the excess at the minute but once they have spoken to the police and the other insurance company (Zurich) they should be able to. The van the other person was driving was a company van and the company are fully aware of the problem and are also being very helpful. I'm just going to have to see what happens I guess.

Thanks again for everyone's help!
