Hi Danny & welcome to the forum

I'm sure the pre payment card would work for such a need as they are widely accepted every where now.

Also just another idea but if you have a PayPal account, they now do a PayPal access MasterCard linked to your account. So you can transfer money into your PayPal account & use the card to pay for goods etc.

Ps: I got one just last year & there are no fees either. Not sure it's right for what you need but it may help other posters.

Is there a friend or family member who could assist with this - you are not paying anything merely securing your booking I assume?

Luluj are you saying you can book a hotel with a prepaid card? Never tried myself as there`s no guarantee that you`ll have funds when they take payment on a[?] no-show.

I think you might be able to with the Cashplus card but I'd be wary about trying. I don't think you can do it with all prepaid cards.

I used the Cashplus card to book online and pay when at hotels.

Be aware that the hotel may reserve the amount against the card. ie your balance still shows correcly but you can't get at the money until the hotel releases the money or you pay the bill using the card.

Mel, I used my GFs card to book some of mine initially but on arrival at the hotel with cash they still demanded a credit card to be presented as security but I didn't have that amount available on the cashplus card at the time which caused some embarassment. Luckily they just accepted it.

I ended up making sure there was enough on the cashplus card AND I took cash to pay the bill so I was knew I was covered.

Theres a card called the CredE its provided by Contis it provides a fully embosed visa debit card, standing order facilities and faster payments in and out and also cashback when using your card online and in stores, its £10 for the card and then £2 per month thereafter You also get your own account number and sort code

Best of Luck

Apparently they work in conjunction with a number of credit unions too

I think the only thing you can't do is withdraw cash from abroad with a cash card (was known as cash card plus)but it's now called cash card and still has the visa debit bit on it. I think it's a cracking account, has all the regular facilities, plus online, monthly statments, go in branch. Just no overdraft, but costs not a bean

Hi All, I will give my input shortly as currently in transit to Manchester as prepaid cards and hotel bookings as well as car hire does sometimes depend on the card and rental company used. Will post shortly!

Donbt all basic accounts have this facility?

I opened new account with Natwest and it is a visa debit but have to draw money from a Nat west machine is my only downfall.

The biggest drawback I can see with this one are the constant transaction charges -- pennies here and there soon mount up.
