I have been in my IVA since August 2009 have only got one more year left to go... However on the outset of my IVA I specifically asked if this would affect my ability to qualify as a solicitor and I was advised no as many solicitors use this as an alternative. I know HVR the opportunity to qualify and the SRA state that they can refuse my application because of the IVA .... I have worked tirelessly for nearly 4years to pay this off and due to pay increases will be paying almost all of my debt back and now my career is suffering.... Can anybody give me any advice as to what I can do?
You can demonstrate to the SLA that you have acted in a very responsible manner and almost repaid all of your debts back in full. Offer to provide an IP reference to this fact, and ask them why they are taking this view. Have they changed their policy since you entered into the IVA in 2009?
I would look into employment law and see if they can do that. Check out ACAS. they have some good stuff on thier site.
Got married two months after i completed! Building my life back up again but still staying on here to support all those who helped me in my times of need!
Thanks for the response Melanie when I checked back in 2009 there was nothing in the SRA handbook now they have updated it in 2011 stating they will refuse any application from a person with an IvA
