Hi
Its over 6 years now since we started our IVA and the last payment was made last year.
I have still not yet received our certificate of completion due to our practitioner not having started checking for PPI yet.
Once this is all sorted i will be looking to make a fresh start with a new Bank and wondered which are the best ones to consider.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I suppose it all depends on what you want from your account. I am with the co op and probably will stick with them but maybe upgrade to a fee paying account that gives mobile phone insurance and breakdown cover (amongst other benefits).
I dont need a local branch as I do everything online but others may prefer to be able to access a branch.
Remember that length of time with a bank is looked at during some credit scoring as well.

hi there and well done for completing albeit still awaiting a certificate
Im with Nationwide; they were where ( hope that reads ok ) i went to open a new account just before i started my IVA, as i was with Nat West & they were my biggest creditor.
I only had a basic account , no overdraft and just a cash card. The reason i mention this is that as of Nov 2012, once i had my certificate , IVA had dissapeared of Insolvency Service website and all my defaults had dropped off my credit file, my financial hsitory was again perfect, which is where you will be once you have your certificate or shortly afterwards. A few weeks ago the Nationwide cashier asked me if I would like to upgrade my account to that of having a full debit card that could be used abrod and I was approved and for a credit card also ( i will only use this for holiday emergencies )
My point is as long as you dont chose a bank / building society that were one of your creditors , you will have a fantastic credit score and so be a very attractive customer for any bank you approach, but you need to make sure they are not connected with any of your previous creditors
Last payment made April 2012
Certificate received 1st Nov 2012
I'm with Nationwide as well. I had a full Flexaccount (from before my BR) and I recently upgraded that to a Flexdirect account. I also have a basic account with them and I tried to upgrade that as well but I couldn't for some reason. I'm quite happy with Nationwide though.
i was also very happy with Natwest , but as they were my biggest creditor, theres no chance of them entertaining me . Nat west online banking and auto budget calculator was superb , its just i wasnt superb with managing my accounts unfortunately

I am currently with Nationwide but found them to be very frustrating in the odd occasion when i went £10-£20 overdrawn.
They will forget about the first time but will charge you every time after that.
It was abit like talking to a brick wall.
I have to say I don't see a problem with that - I know we've all done it but at the end of the day it's an unauthorised overdraft and the charges are in the Ts & Cs.

I was with Nat West all my adult life until my DMP and subsequent IVA, and I was actually really upset to have to leave them! It was just after I left them that they started with the "helpful banking" slogan...
I have accounts at Halifax and Co Op, on the other bank account thread here I was pleased to learn you can pay at the pump at Morrisons with the cashminder debit card, as there are two relatively close to me.
Final payment 1st April 2016.
Completion Certificate received 19th May 2016.
