I Wonder if anyone else has come across this; I took out an IVA in 2007 and it was completed in June 2011 with a F & F settlement. I have my certificate of completion and i'm now in the process of clearing up my credit records.
In the last 12 months we have noticed that my husband has not been able to get any credit - eg changing bank accounts, or getting a new lower interest rate credit card with his current bank. He has queried this and been told it's because of my IVA. We do not have joint bank accounts, just a joint mortgage.
Is there anything that can be done about this - I feel awful that he is being penalised because of my bad credit history.
Does anyone know if once the IVA comes of my credit records (in the next few days I hope), if my husband will still be affected by this?
Unfortunatley the joint mortgage will create a financial link between you both and this will negativley effect your husbands credit rating.
The default notices and IVA should fall off very shortly, if they do not you may have to send your completion certificate to the credit reference agencies, but once they fall off this should then automatically feed through to your husbands file

Once your files are clean there is no reason why you or him couldnt apply for credit. It would however largely depend where you apply for credit, and you should avoid attempting to get credit from anyone who was a creditor in your IVA - as they have their own records to look upon. If its a non creditor, they will only have whats on your credit files to go on.
In my case though, my wife who wasnt part of my IVA has never had a problem whilst I was in my IVA and we are 'linked' in the credit files, though we dont have any joint accounts.
