Not sure if anyone can advise ... I posted earlier this week re my husband being a named card holder on mums barclaycard. She's more than happy as is our ip ... It's purely for his work expenses/fuel and would be claimed and paid in full every month ... Our dilemma is when she's applying for it on line .. There r 2 questions ,
1. Is the card holder a related ( or words to that effect )
2. Do they live at the same address as the primary card holder ... Obviously this is a no ....

My question is if we answered yes to this would they find out ... I don't like being dishonest
Or are there ways around this ....

We don't even want a card but his work won't provide a cc card for him ... This month we have to pay out £250 in fuel as he's had slot of meetings ... We had the money on our buffer account but that's nearly been used up... Obviously we get it back but not until the 1st of the month ... The worry is the month he has more meetings and we don't have enough in the reserve fund !!

Hi, just answer honestly I would say, I don't think that an additional cardholder has to be a relative or live at the same address? If in doubt give them a quick ring and just ask some general questions.

The principle card holder remains responsible for all debts incurred by an additional card holder. It's unlikely that he will be credit checked as an additional card holder. Though a ID search may take place and if he's not on the electoral roll it will come out in the wash then.

Hi Smiler,

Not sure if this helps but I too have a Barclaycard CC through my company. I told my Director when i went into the IVA just in case BC took it back as the card is registered to my name & address and i then spoke to my IP (or an assistant) who said as I'm not liable for the "debt" as a named holder it's ok. That was 3 years ago nearly.

Just yesterday I got a new card as well, so just fill in the details and I'm sure you'll be ok.

Thanks guys, I've just logged on with mum and it specifically asks u to tick the box confirming 2nd holder lives at same address :( I'm thinking we're going to have to come up with an alternative plan .... I'd hate for there to be any come back on my mum

Hey Smiler,

So give them your address.... I really don't think it will matter as your mum is the primary card holder and liable for the debt.

The worse that will happen is they will say no.

I always though it didn't matter where the additional cardholder lived?

So did I Lesley but it appears not to be the case. I'm a bit of a worrier and as barclaycard were one of our creditors would hate for it to effect mum ... She's knows our situation and was just trying to help us out !! X think I'll get hubby to rung barclaycard and just ask a few general questions and see what they say ... Life would bbso much easier If his work would help out !

Paying expenses on behalf of your employer and claiming them back is a personal rant of mine. I work for an organisation that reimburses expenses at the end of the following month if which they occurred. Therefore, the worst case scenario is that you could pay for something on the 1st of July and not get it back until the end of August. Why should we do this? They don't even pay you a bit extra for what is to them an interest free loan. I asked if I could be reimbursed weekly as I’m not that unreasonable, but of course, computer says no.

Just had a google of this and it would appear there are others experiencing the same they would like an additional cardholder but it would appear they do need to be at the same address...well I never

It would appear so .... Our only alternative is either to say he does live with her ... But I will prob worry myself sick ... Or mum has a nationwide card on her name with no balance which she said we can just use ... Our only issue with that is it will have mums babe on the card but then as most places now r chip and pin would that really matter .... God just when I thought we turned a corner and my worrying about finances had ended !!

Well I never, this must just be Barclays policy decision. Not all banks insist on the additional card holder living at the same address as the principle card holder.

After all it can be done with a company credit card. Try the likes of Capital One or dare I say HSBC, their forms appear to allow it.
