I don't blame you if you are grumpy. From what I see on here some companies seem to make it up as they go along which at times, is a poor reflection on the industry. It would be better if GT would respond on here themselves.

I'm now really confused, and getting fed up dealing with posts about GT and mis-sold PPI and mass variations if the truth be told. Am going to have to start getting a little more selective about what I respond to, as this really is an issue for you all to resolve with GT directly. Sorry to sound grumpy ...
I must admit, I do tend to bang on about this myself -- and am also getting a mite cheesed orf (as they say in posh circles) myself. I, too, must be more selective.

In fairness to you Foggy, and to me too to an extent, you werent asking for help in dealing with GT, nor about PPI etc. We were both simply recounting what happened during the spotty phone calls. Both of us dealt with it how we felt best to do...and in posting I guess yours, as well as my motivation was to inform others who undoubtedly are getting the same calls.
I'm pretty sure I was quite positive about the guy I spoke to...but it's all up there to read, if anybody wants to.
So I got another phone call yesterday and the line was " we don't seem to have received a response from you" I went through the previous phone call and reiterated my reasons for a negative response. The lady's reply was "so doesnt the promise of an earlier completion certificate motivate you to want to sign it?" Now that's where it gets seriously misleading because in reality, there is no promise of an earlier CC, my PPI should be sorted long before my final payment and thats the only basis on which they can promise it. It was all very polite but she finished by telling me that one of the senior people would definitely want to ring me to discuss my decision further.
A very interesting but actually quite disturbing call. Disturbing in how facts are being manipulated to "persuade" people to sign the letter, in how a refusal to sign is not accepted despite the letter itself saying it will be and extremely disturbing that pressure is being brought to sign something, which lets face it, is primarily to increase GT's fees.
I'm not pleased about having received that call and GT have left a bad taste, frankly.
I am rather concerned to read Bradders recollection of his conversation - presumably with the PPI company and not GT itself? You cannot dangle the carrot of an early completion certificate, to co-erce a client into agreeing to something which they do not concur with - there are other methods within the terms of the IVA to deal with disagreements.
Mel, I had a very similar ( if not scripted) conversation with GT themselves. The relationship twixt CMC and GT is very close, they appear intertwined.

The lady identified herself as being from GT Mel. It was an Edinburgh number and a Scottish accent, which initially threw me as I would have expected it to be from Belfast. She clearly knew nothing about my case and was working to a script, or set of bullet points and the carrot you described, was dangled quite openly. Conversely she suggested delays to completion if I didnt sign the letter. I'm not easily rattled, but some people will be.

Although my iva with GT has failed & i am in the process of going bankrupt i'm still getting phone calls re these spotty letters, claiming ppi etc, when i got the last phone call i said i din't want to claim, was going BR & wasn't interested. I received this txt a few days ago, "As we have been unable to contact you in regards to the proposed variation consent, we will be arranging for a field agent to visit your home address, alternatively phone us to give your consent. Regards Grant Thornton."I DON'T THINK SO!!!!I was so concerned about this i contacted my solicitor who said this is bully boy tactics,if they call at my house not to open the door to them & if they continue to contact me to threaten to call the police & say i'm being harrassed, this is absolutely ridiculous, what right do they have to land on my doorstep because i refuse to sign a form, just thought i would post in case anyone else gets this txt & gets worried. I won't be bullied by GT over this.[:)]
Foggy we too have had phone calls saying they are from GT and asking us to sign the variation this was a scottish number and i was under the impression that GT were based in Ireland? we have also explained that as our PPI claims are almost at an end there is no need for this variation they then go on to say it is to cover the VAT issue, so we explained as far as we were aware this was just a simple case of reclaim they then go on to say yes but you will be allowed to keep the intereset so Iask what about the interest on the PPI already paid before this Variation as it states interest from ALL claims on variation, oh no they say you cant have that back
Thanks Melanie for your advice, i had to stop paying my IVA to GT in feb 2011, didn't get my failure notice from them until march 2013 & they have the nerve to keep pestering me,i was nearly around the bend trying to gee them up to fail the iva, thank goodness now i don't have to deal with them anymore.[:)]
What - two years from the payment of your last payment to the serving of a failure notice? What is going on? Why did you need to wait for a failure notice - the contract was broken when you told them you were not going to continue making payments!
Boy.... after hearing all this I'M soooo glad I completed back in 2008.
BUT... saying that.... I did receive a phone call from a company perpurting to be calling on behalf of GT regarding potentially claiming back my PPI.
Strange thing is, I have claimed it back myslef back in 2000, WAY before this PPI business started, as I was made redundant from my fulltime job (only leaving a part time job of no more than 9 hrs per week) and they point blank refused to payout (barclay card/bank of scotland/RBS all repayed me my fees. BC were a nightmare and I did say I would be taking them to court, BS and RBS paid up with no issues and noted on my form I signed that I had written that this was with me informing them that I had 2 jbs and that they would pay out if I lost the FT one.
Sooo... this means GT are now in cohoots with one of these PPI companies and bothering all their previous clients.....
