I contacted Harrington brooks and im now in the proceess of applying for IVA with debt of 53000. I went through expenditure and income for myself ( all debt is solely mine and wife didnt know about themm) . They also asked for my wifes proof of income. I sent both our incomes and then went through the expenditure and half that i contribute. HB concluded i had 280 per month free to pay which i was happy to pay and go ahead. I have just recieved my proposal to sigh and he details are different. They dont have the full expenditure down and have my wifes monthly salary down by 1000 pound but overall without some of the expenditure been added the total difference between income and expenditure still leaves 280 pound a month! I tried ringing numbers that the Proposal agent text me from but line was dead and couldnt get through to HB number i had as it said it was closed even though according to opening times it was meant to open for another 4 hours! Im just worried more as a courier is meant to pick my signed document up in morning.

Hi Richard and welcome to the forum

Entering into an IVA is a major life decision, and one which takes careful planning and preparation. Time needs to e spent with your IP firm to ensure that figures are understood and are accurate. I would urge you not to rush into signing any agreement which has not been properly prepared nor explained to you. You have to live with this agreement for at least the next five years.

Why is a courier coming to collect the documents, when presumably you could return them by post once they have been amended to remove the inaccuracies?

Hi Richard

That is not a good start, time I think to take a breath, and tell the courier you will use the post when you are ready and confident, May also be a good idea to try another firm for comparison while it is not too late

Have you spoken to other companies or just to Harrington Brooks?
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

Definitely look to a couple of other firms for comparison. I would not give the courier anything yet!

I think you should definitely check some other companies as well if you not happy.
A courier!!!! That is major pressure for you to sign, they need to give you time without pressure to read everything in case there is more errors on the proposal.

I had the courier pick up my proposals but I had time to read mine , honestly I have had no problems with Harrington Brooks they E mail me back and I can always get through on the phone but like the others say if your not happy tell the courier you have questions and you aren't signing till you have spoken to someone

Thanks for all messages, really gratefull. I also had to use the courier when sending the authority to act form. That didnt bother me and he was proffessional and helpful. My big worry is the the wrong proposal and how the have my wifes income £1000 a month light. I know many advise to go with the free sevices any advice and any advice on my wifes role contribution in this. She earns more than me but had no idea i had accumulated this debt.

Agreeing your actual income and expenditure at the start is absolutely critical for a smooth running iva. If the figures are wrong by the time you carry out your 1st annual review your iva company could try to up your payments!!

Richard I realise your under pressure to get your finances and debt in order but would reitterate what others have said......get a second or even third companys view.

5/6 or even more years IVA is a long time and if you get it wrong with your chosen IVA company it will be a long hard slog.

The financial aspect of the IVA is difficult enough without having concerns/confidence in your IVA company.

I can wholeheartedly recommend Melanie Giles.
I came into this world with nothing and still have most of it left!

Harrington Brooks tend to use couriers to help get proposals in quickly in order to hit their monthly targets for convening creditor meetings from what I hear...

Many Harrington Brookes client's also have a disposable income of around £280 also. Or so I've been told.

Thanks everyone. I had spoke to a few prior to harrington brooks, and up until yesterday was very pleased with them. Arranged phone calls Phone calls on time, promt replys to any messages I left.It was just the wrong info on proposal and then no phone answer on phone. I was panicking thinking the worse. But i e mailed both my advisor and the lady who drafted my proposal with my concerns. And both contacted m at 8am and 9am respectively as soon as they started. It seems it was a mix up as thye had asked for my wifes income and just a copy of one month salary to show. But my wife full time job is split in half for her studies. And for some reason she gets 2 wage slips with half showing pay for studies and other for job. So I sent both to show her total monthly pay and HB took it as been 2 seperate slips for a month pay. But thanks for advice and wish you all well in the future
