I agree with back on track, I wouldn't panic. Apparently the Co-op are going to be closing branches but I don't think this will have a big effect as banking can be done at the Post Office.

According to reports the branch closures will be offset slightly by an investment in the online banking system --- which it could do with
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

They mentioned mobile banking as well Foggy. The app is dire so any investment in that would be good! All you can do is look at your balance whereas Halifax and Nationwide allow you to actually use it for your banking!

The Co-op have been a brilliant bank for us and I think it is a shame that some of their staff will lose their jobs.

Their call centre staff are fantastic.

We have no branch for 30 miles and in the 3 years we have been with them it has never been a problem for me.

Stick with them and ignore the press!

I remember the same reassurances that there was 'no need to worry' back in 2008. The same was said about: HBOS, Northern Rock and Bradford & Bingley.

...and look what happened to them!!!

I too bank with Co-Op, and sincerely hope that they pull-through. But having to close 15% of their branches has to tell you something.

Do therefore look for a fall-back account somewhere, just in case.
My opinions are just that: Based on my experience and being a self-employed IVA customer.

I believe Nationwide have a basic account so that may be a possibility too.

If your only debt to Barclays is a credit card you could probably open a cashcard account in a branch. This would be less likely if you have an overdraft or existing loan with Barclays but could still be worth a try. The cashcard account is available to undischarged bankrupts and I have had clients open one even if there were previous debts to Barclaycard.

If Barclay's accepted my application, couldn't Barclaycard who is a creditor get its hands on my wages?

Not as far as I am aware and certainly not after the IVA is approved. I have been advised by Barclays quite recently that Barclaycard is a separate business and this would not impact on opening an account. It is worth asking but you need to apply within the branch. If you live in N Ireland I can get you contact details as they are eager to expand but if not go to your local branch.

I have co op account and have used it happily for 3 yrs. IVA completed early by F&F Nov 2012.

I had debts with barclaycard in IVA and I just applied to Barclays for a current account(panic and unnecessary maybe but I want a backup free banking service), and got it.....
