you'll soon learn a new pattern of behaviour with how you view & manage your money! It's a bit like using your other hand to brush your teeth...it feels a bit weird to start with but you soon get used to it!!

Seems a silly decision by Admiral to lose your business - but I would advise against anyone not declaring the existence of their IVA if asked about their financial situation, as this could invalidate the insurance cover if a claim were ever to be made on the policy.
If I was asked if I was in an iva, I would have declared it. But through the whole 5 years I was never asked if I was in an iva.
( as regards to bank accounts we opened up a new account just before we started the iva process so it did't come up then either)
Does this mean then that you have to declare that you are in an iva even if you are not asked about it?
& welliboot , I'm hust wondering now if you told the insurance you were in the iva rather than them asking you if you were in an iva?

Shop Around - it never pays to be a 'loyal' customer with insurance companies.
I have just renewed my home/contents insurance with 'AXA', and my car insurance with 'One-Call Direct'. Renewed Monthly with both, no problems whatsoever.
Neither ask about IVA's either (AXA only asked specifically about 'bankruptcy').
Saved £500 p/a in the process as well, and that is despite paying a premium to pay Monthly.

My opinions are just that: Based on my experience and being a self-employed IVA customer.
Perhaps it depends on who you use as to who will do a credit check on a new policy.
I could not take out new insurance policies last year because I failed the credit check. It was with AA Insurance & had problems with direct line aswell.

Hiya hair bobbles. They specifically asked me if I'd ever been declared bankrupt or if I was in an IVA. I said I was in an IVA and I was put on hold for ages.....then he came back and said they wouldn't insure me because of the IVA - I asked what difference it made as if I don't pay the premium then I'm not coveted! He said its company policy not to insure....I was made to feel like a common criminal. My car insurance is due for renewal with them in Feb....but they can jog on now if they think I will stay with them after this.
I looked for insurance on a price comparison website this year & have got my car insurance with hasting direct. I've done it all online & didn't come across any questions about an iva. But I did pay for the year in full because I was worried about failing a credit check again!
I think because I've let things go out on automatic renewal I've not had any problems over the 5 years- but you will save money for definite if you shop around.
It's swings & roundabouts! I preferred not to have any hassle! Versus saving a bit of money!
It makes you wonder though how many insurers out there have this " company policy" not to insure IVA'ers.....
