With so many familys trying to keep their heads above water and the UK personel debt rising faster and faster
Why is it every time we go into these stores they are constantly pushing and pushing for people to take out their store cards or credit cards.

Nearly every shop assistant would say "would you like an extra 20% off that today"

Yep, we dont have to take one out, but why do they push so hard?

Profit, profit, profit. Greed Greed Greed.

Its about time something was done about the constant push for people to take credit out.

I agree . I think youngsters on low earnings are particularly vulnerable to this type of seliing . So easy for them to get into debt .

20% off today is little use on a £50 coat that ends up costing you £100 because of the credit agreement you signed. I am not sure how these stores stand legally beacuse in essence they are selling financial products so I would have thought that positioning the signing of a credit agreement as "would you like 20% off today" is a bit murky and probably on the edges of the law.[?]

But it is possible to say no and, if used sensibly, this can be a way of making a decent saving. I have done this in the past, paid off the card and closed the account.

I don't think they push that hard. If I get asked, I just say, "no, thanks." and they don't ask again.

Same here Sensible77, I've been asked the question, said no, paid and gone on my way.
