Our IVA finished just over 6 years ago and has just dropped off our credit report. Our heating as broken and we need to replace the boiler which is going to cost £1500 to replace. Does anyone know if we will be able to get a loan somewhere and how we go about it?
It may be worth trying the company that offers the new boiler, they have probably linked with a finance company such as Creation, Hitachi or Barclays Partner Finance
Good luck
Feeling gutted today. Hubby went into the Nat West Bank today which is where we hold a basic bank account. He asked if there was any chance of obtaining a loan for them to fix our heating system. The answer was No Chance. You need a regular bank account to even apply for a loan and there is no way we would be given an upgrade on the bank account. Our IVA commenced on 27/02/2008 and we finished last June. We received our completion certificate in December and the IVA has now dropped off our credit file. Hubby asked how long before we would be able to obtain a regular account and was told that the Nat West policy would be NEVER EVER.

Follow Andy's advice and see who the boiler company recommend.
I would however move away from Natwest personally ... That reaction would make me more determined than ever to prove them wrong .... Try Santendar or Nationwide ...both have been good to us !
Sharing from experiences of dealing with debt
There is a solution for everyone .... Just need to stay positive !
Is anybody able to give any further assistance on this. It is not a new boiler we need but a new cylinder/hot water tank.
It is going to cost around £1200 and with 3 teenage boys in the house we desperately need to get it done. The heating is staying on all of the time and making a funny noise.
Please can anybody give us some advice as to how we can get the money to get it fixed. We finished the IVA 6 year ago and it has dropped off our files.
Did you mean to say that your IVA finished 6 years ago? Was it 6 months?
I am sure that you have already tried this, but are there any family members or friends who could assist? Or even worth trying employers who often do grant emnployee loans to be repaid directly from salaries.
Sorry I meant to say we finished June last year and our 6 years ended in Feb 2014 therefore it came off our file. I am a civil servant so no chance of an employee loan and husband couldn't either. Nobody to assist us financially unfortunately.
On a separate note we had a restriction on our home with an RX1 whilst in the IVA. How does that restriction get lifted.
Yes we are homeowners and we are just about at the end of our mortgage deal. We were hoping to get another deal with them as our fixed rate is coming to an end. If we applied for a payment break would that affect us being able to obtain a new deal. We also have 2 secured loans which we were hoping to remortgage and put onto the mortgage.
I don't know - but it is perhaps worth a try, as well as asking the secured loan companies for a temporary break. Perhaps the boiler is more important than negotiating a re-mortgage right now - or could you borrow a bit more to cover the cost of the boiler?
Is there opportunity to pay for the boiler replacement through a payment plan ... Sure I read british gas offered something like this? Just googled and lots of links available like the one below for free boilers / grants etc
