Hi there - do you know if he's been to court and been declared bankrupt yet? If he has, it can last up to 3years, although he maybe discharged before then but still have to make payments for the 3yr period.

If he hasn't been to court yet, he will have to make an appointment and submit forms on the day. Different courts vary, some have appointments, some you just walk in and wait.

I don't know if men are more embarrassed, on this forum there's quite a few men who are dealing with the debt problem. In my case, my hubby buried his head and I have had to deal with everything...but we're all different.

Good luck and ask as many questions as you need to xx

Discharge would normally be 1 Year or less. As Julie says payments may continue to be taken from income for three years but only if there is sufficient disposable income.

Bankruptcy does not bother some people at all, and for others it can be devastating - it really depends on an individual's attitude and their actual ability to repay their debts. For some people there is no viable option, and that is why bankruptcy is such a valuable solution to avoid the pressure from unaffordable debt.
