You could also contact any of the IPs listed on this forum for free impartial advice. I would be wary of the voluntary sector as the standard of information can be patchy at best and not all of their advisors would be confident or qualified to give specialist insolvency advice.
That is true, up to a point. However I would not expect to get totally impartial advice from someone who had a vested interest in selling me something. The C.A.B and National Debtlines only concern is the wellbeing of the client.
That may be true of some companies, but I firmly believe that all of the IP's who post on here will give impartial advice when it comes to an IVA, DMP or BR.
There are times when the CAB point people in the direction of companies which charge a fortune - someone posted on here about that not too long ago. They don't always know the ins and outs of debt solutions.

IPs are extremely heavily regulated and a good thing too. No IP worth their salt is going to risk their licence which took them years of hard work to get. Advice centres are understaffed, underfunded and the staff are not all trained professionals. I agree that some in the debt business do not give the best advice but I would not include IPs or their staff.
I'm not making a special case of Insolvency Practitioners.
I wouldn't expect to get truly impartial advice from ANYONE with a vested interest, and that includes DMP companies and the likes of CCCS.
Also, it's not as simple as being 'impartial' in advice.
I expect Insolvency Practioners spend a lot of time telling people things like 'Bankruptcy may be a good option for you, but we can't really help you with that. Of course if you want an IVA, we'll sort everything out for you.'
The prospect of being left out in the cold with no assistance is quite enough to send a vulnerable debtor into the welcoming arms of an IVA, even if Bankruptcy would have been a much better option for them.
In the same way, a DMP company will only have one solution - a DMP.
Call me a cynic, but I've noticed that the IP's almost never post any help on the Bankruptcy forum.
Best Regards

I don't agree at all with your comments about IP's only recommending IVA's.
My first company told us we could only do BR, the second wouldn't touch us for an IVA and we ended up with a DMP for a while.
The IP's who post on here would not recommend the wrong solutions for people.
It is down to the IP's which sites they choose to post on. I don't think there is any sinister reason why they don't.

I'm going to lock the topic before it gets any worse!
