I have recently completed my IVA through a F&F settlement. I would now like to open a joint bank account with my partner for household bills. In the past I have been unable to, due to my IVA. I am aware the IVA is still on my credit history, but as it is not a current IVA, would I have a problem opening a new account?

Also I am aware that by opening a joint account, I would be creating a financial association with my partner, and I am concerned my poor credit history would affect my partner also. Would this be the case?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi, I don't really know how you will get on with that, but I would say for you to just try it and see. They can only say no.

Your partner could always try filing a notice of disassoctiation with the agencies. Don't know if that would work though if you are going to be having a joint account.

Hi
My guess is that you will struggle to open anything other thn a basic account as your IVA will be on your file for six years.

It might be better for your partner to open the account first, and then add you on at a later date.

Hi
Yes it is true that you can't have any credit above £500 whilst in an IVA unless you have your IPs permission.
It is upto younot to accept any credit rather than your bank not to offer it.
Generally you will struggle to obtain unsecured credit if you have an IVA on your file
