What absolutely appalling advice, which probably came from a call centre operative rather than a qualified professional I would guess!

I have nothing but praise for the staff we have dealt with at Payplan from our very first enquiry up until now.

However, it would appear that some of the bigger companies don't give their staff as much training as they could.

It's a pity they can't all be as professional as the IP's who post on here!

We are with payplan and to be fair they have been excellent do far. We have emailed our son's situation to our case adviser and she said it will have to go back to our ip and creditors to decide what happens next.
Thats awful ladyh that you had to ask your son to leave home. It is an unbearable thought my poor son has been to so many interviews and is trying so hard to get work and realises the strain this is putting us all under but it is just out of our control.Perhaps in hindsight we should'nt have accepted this modification but if the iva had'nt been approved and we had gone bankrupt my husband would have lost his job and we would have lost our home too as it is provided by his employer. The creditors would have got nothing then at least with our ivas they will get 50% of their money back.

I had a very long "discussion" over a similar situation. My son is off to uni and I consider myself obligated to contribute. He can't get a grant because of our income being over the threshold. After much discussion I got the three years payments to him included and agreed.

Always a tricky area, but parents have to be able to support their children and will generally put that as a first priority. Creditors need to understand this and build it - within reason - into their expectations for a fair repayment.
