Now that my IVA proposals have been agreed, I wondered when I will be added to the Insolvency Register and why this info is made public. Are they not bound by the data protection act? I didnt know anything about this when I agreed to go down the IVA route. In fact I was told an IVA was better than BR, I was told IVAs are not publicised.
The thought that my personal info will be available for all nosy people to see free of charge on te internet makes me feel sick and like a criminal!
I believe that they are not published with regard to being listed in the local papers for all to read, you will be listed on the register probably within a week or so of you being accepted for your IVA, it just depends on how quickly the register receives your information I suppose.
I really do not think that many average people would scroll the insolvency register, more likely to be company's looking for more business options.

Mine took about six weeks for my deatils to appear. Iagree with banjoplayer as today I had a letter from a debt management company saying they were aware that I had an IVA and the start dates etc, this could only have come from the registar. All they and others will do is put doubt in your mind and hopefully you will call them.
There is always an answer! You just have to find it!
Hi 02B and welcome to the forum, you will be on the insolvency register but as you probably didn't know it existied prior to your IVA then I doubt many other people will know it exists.
Like yourself I am in an IVA and when I first saw myself on it, about a week after acceptance, I didn't like it but vowed the next time I would check it would be to check it had been removed after the completion of my IVA.
Try not to worry you are not a criminal and have found a solution to your problem.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
The register ought to be updated within one week of the acceptance of your IVA, but I think the Insolvency Service currently have a backlog.
The register is rarely used by members of the general public, and you should not let this one issue tar the advantages of being debt free in five years time having repaid something to your creditors.
Mine went on after 3 weeks, and I wasn't aware of the register either before coming on this forum.
As has been stated, not many people know that it exists.

Hmmmmm that old chesnut again, hopefully in time there will be a change in the law and this information will one be available for those that really need it and for a fee.
Om shanti, namesté, good luck to all who are embarking on the IVA journey, it isn't always an easy one but the outcome is the best.
IVA COMPLETED August 2012, received Completion certificate 18.4.13.
I didn't know about the insolvency register before my IVA and to be honest I don't think that many people would know unless they'd been on it themselves.
I find it reassuring that people did not know of the Insolvency Register prior to finding themselves in difficulty and does put my mind at rest and hopefully will do the same for you 02B Free x

My friend worked in the information section of the local library for 7 years and was always being asked to look up obscure for people. I asked her if she'd heard of the insolvency register and she hadn't come across it in all that time.
Mine went on about six weeks after. I have a rather unusual surname so I am the only one on there but then if you hover your mouse over it it gives my full address which makes me a little cross and would not be as bothereed if that part was on a need to know basis rather than anybody being able to see where I live.
Would anybody be able to tell me if you the information is updated automatically if you move or change your name?
Back to square one but what dunt kill you makes you stronger!!
Don't hold your breath orchid - it's not likely to happen. I believe that the only one not currently available for public view is in Scotland.
Even the Northern Ireland one has recently gone online, although you do have to pay for a bankruptcy search. Not an IVA one though I don't think.

I know kallis it is so infuriating to think that because we have been unlucky enough to find ourselves in this position and trying very hard to rectify it we are there for all to see but others who break the law of worse are afforded protection under the data protection act. grrrrrrrrrr and grrrrr again.

The only saving grace is that not many people know about it.
Who knows, get a new government in, perhaps a new petition could be started and this one might listen to us!
