Moving out for the first time?? I have been in my IVA for 3 years next month (woo hoo)and have been living at home with parents all that time. However, things are changing and I am looking for my own accommodation. I am looking for advice on letting agents, utility suppliers and phone companies like Virgin. Do they all require credit checks to be undertaken and how difficult will it be to move?? I have never had any bills in my own name, except for my mobile, and I am worried about how to take the next step. Sorry if this has already been covered but I couldn't find a thread that answered these questions.

Hi

You may find that you have to put up a decent size deposit if you are looking to rent for the first time. I would get a reference from your IVA company to say that your payments have all been made on time.

I don't know how you will get on as regards utilities and phone etc.

I'm sure one of the experts will be along with further advice.

We do all need the utilities don't we? You probably will be ok there.

As regards the phone, hopefully BT would be ok. I would try them rather than use a mobile all the time if you can.

Thanks for your replies. I'm going to make enquiries with the help of my sister this week so hopefully will get something sorted. It's daunting enough officially moving out and sorting all of this without having the added headache of IVAs to consider. I have read others have managed to sort themselves in similar situations so it gives me some hope. Hopefully I will get the right result and will update you all if and when that happens and it might help others in my position in the future. Thanks again
