pog1234 - I opened a Cashminder (current account) and Smart Saver (savings account) with the Co-op before I entered into an IVA and both have been operating since without a hitch (six months).

I'm really pleased with the Co-op. Ironically I wish I'd been with them when I was a credit user rather than Lloyds TSB but of course if that were the case I'd have a debt with them and wouldn't be able to open the Cashminder account!

Good info for those pre iva.

Having looked at NS&I, if you are post IVA and want savings, I'd give them a go.

Yes you can pay in cheques and also have a regular DD going into it if you want. The only downside was that you need to keep £100 in the account but that could also be an upside too. The best bit for me is you can pay in at any Post Office, cash, cheque or transfer by debit card from your bank account.

That's ok then! I was just telling my husband tonight that we may have problems with the Smart Saver account, but now I feel a bit more confident transferring money over to it x

You couldn't be more right Cath - I just kept thinking no problem, I'll sort it out - it never happens..then all of a sudden in August it hit me like a brick - no credit available anywhere to pay anything - I've never felt so low - thanks to VB, this forum and Melanie, there's hope!! xx

You should be able to open the savings account if your IVA is still pending.

Give it a try.

I'd open it - as far as I know the Co-op aren't in the habit of closing the accounts of anyone in an IVA. They are about the best bank out there as far as I'm concerned!

We have had good reports about them before as well. They are also recommended by posters on here.

I agree too re credit. It hit me 2 weeks ago. I've now cancelled my direct debits. Yesterday I received my new bank details of my cashminder account. I've had a national savings account for years so don't need to find a new one (nothing in it now except the minimum £100)I've already been in contact with Melanie Giles and sent her details of what I owe. I'm just waiting to hear if she is willing to represent me.

Good luck gwdihw, I'm at a similar stage to you....I knew exactly in advance the date that it was all going to go wrong, the day the money would run out. Thank godness for all the help on this forum.
