I know some catalogue stores do this. Even if you pay cash, they will still open an account for you whether you like it or not.

My Father also fell into this trap a couple of months ago with 'Premierman' - he tried to buy a pair of shoes online with them and a few clicks later had an account with £200 worth of credit - he didn't want the account nor the credit! There should be legislation against this happening!
I think with the amount of online shopping done now, a signature doesn't really matter!
As Pelder says, a few clicks of the mouse and you have an account.
It should be stopped though.
