Hi all
We are in the process of moving to Canada and will be renting at first. We are getting concerned as not sure if we are going to pass the application stage with an IVA as all letting agents ask for financial info. Has anyone been in a similar situation.
Also, We have been told we need to build a credit history out there and the most popular seems to be leasing a car, getting a store card or getting a card linked to the bank acct, with this option you have to leave an amount with the bank, say $1000 and then they give you a card to that limit, they keep the $1k as security for a certain amount of time. Obviously credit isn't an option on an IVA so I would like to try an find out what others have done when they have moved to Canada as you need a credit card for everything inc car hire etc.
Thanks

Are you already in an IVA Andrea? If so, you will need to seek your Supervisor's permission to take out credit, even if it is overseas.

Hi Melanie, yep we are with yourselves, Have emailed Claire R with moving dates etc and waiting a reply. We are very stressed today [:(]as hubby off to Canada next week for 2 weeks starting work and then back here to sort shipping etc, he has to get car hire but nowhere will accept debit card to reserve the car,[:(] we can pay on return of car with visa debit but not to present when collecting. What can we do? and what advice can you give re previous clients that have gone to Canada and getting car etc. Everywhere takes CC and not DC we really are getting very worried

Can you send me your details as I don't recognise you from your forum name. I have clients who made the move around 18 months ago - and if they are in agreement I can put you both in touch and then you can get this from the horse's mouth.

Got your e-mail tonight and I will look at this on Monday for you. I don't have an indepth knowledge of matters in Canada, but so long as this does not affect your IVA payments, and the money is to be used purely to fund essential car hire, I am going to be relatively relaxed on this matter.
