Not got ours yet either.

Didn't realise Paypal had stopped issuing cards. I doubt I will get another one as I've not used mine for ages.

I wish Nationwide would hurry up and send the debit cards! I use my basic account with them for our housekeeping and it'll be such a help to have a debit card rather that having to withdraw cash.

I was also offered the opportunity to upgrade to the full debit card, but I explained that I would not be granted one at the moment.

Concerning using the new card outside the UK, my understanding, from correspondence with Nationwide, is that the Cashcard+ can be used in stores abroad and on foreign websites, but not to withdraw cash from ATMs outside the UK.

This means that you either have to carry a large quantity of cash from the UK or spend everything on your card.

I can not imagine mum or dad wanting to put a single ice-cream or can of Coke on a card transaction.

For me, spending cash is a great incentive not to spend; a card does not seem like real money.

Also, there is a risk of customers reducing their balance to nil without realising and being unable to spend anything more.

Finally, from November 2010 Nationwide will be making charges for all non-UK transactions making the account less attractive for foreign travel.

I'm lucky as I've also got a full Flexaccount with Nationwide and although I don't travel abroad (at the moment!) it's a bit annoying that they've made these changes. Apparently I'll be getting free travel insurance, but it only covers me and isn't full cover!
