My wife and I both drive 10 yr old cars so I speak from experience when I say that they are a false economy, however, unfortunately it will be a few years before we can afford anything other. This year we have spent in the region of £800- £1000 alone just to keep them on the road and this money has to come out of housekeeping etc but what else can you do?
That said at least we can console ourselves with the fact that the cars are bought & paid for......so every cloud I suppose.
I came into this world with nothing and still have most of it left!

Hi Pennyless, I had quite heated exchanges with both my case admin and the credit controller about the false economy of an extreme old car with so many miles on the clock. I didn't actually want to pursue expensive options such as leasing or HP...just wanted to borrow another £500-£1000 from my dad and factor this into my expenditure for a year. Luckily a payrise is coming along so I may be able to spend a little extra. Fingers crossed I'm lucky...one careful lady owner etc...
