I was a catalogue fan too prior to my IVA as I'm a lazy shopper and don't like to go out to do it. Makes me go out now shopping but obviously on a budget and mostly when I'm in Manchester seeing my family.

I do love shopping and still miss it which is why I enjoy my yearly day out in Birmingham Christmas shopping with my daughter.

I'm looking forward to Easter. It will be the first one where we have not still been paying for Christmas!

We have been picking up stuff for the kids throughout the year but we still have some things left to get. What is Christmas without a few new colouring books and pens?

We put some petrol in last night and now we have the grand total of 2.50 left until we get paid on Wednesday! Shopping for the odd thing will begin again on Thursday :)

I have 15 quid in Nectar points so it looks like Sainsbury's for our Christmas cake this year :)

We are pretty much sorted now, just have the food shopping to do and will be going out to fill the car up soon - mum and dad managed to get me a 5p off a litre voucher from Sainsburys so we'll be off out into the cold soon!

The main thing Imhotep is you're coping and know you'll get through Christmas without credit. As you move on in your IVA I think it becomes easier as I know I just accept it now. Hope you have a great Christmas x

hi, kall you're right, i feel i'm looking forward to it more now,i think knowing the creditors meeting won't be for a while has taken pressure off and knowing my hubby won't be coping with secret credit card bills is a huge plus.
food shopping still to be done but we've been buying things we've seen on offer like crisps and treats,we've got a shopping list which has been shaved - so we won't waste anything.
the support from you all makes such a difference. i hope anyone reading who is struggling with debt plucks up the courage to make that call and get help.
God bless x

Once it's out in the open it is a huge relief and we felt so much better once the arguments and recriminations were got through!

The IVA is a huge relief but Christmas is a hugely difficult time for me. We have a large family, have 4 god children and as friends we all bought gifts for each other.
To go to not sending gifts (even if they were just £25 each) feels terrible and although I can put up with the adults as the obvious mutterings but I really feel for the children and at family/friends events I really feel excluded.

We used to spend shedloads on the kids, each other and parents. Now my Christmas presents are funded by vouchers earned by doing online surveys and they have been told that we an afford little.

Coupled with four family birthdays in December, it makes it a very expensive time of year.

We just tell them that money is tight but not the reason why.

Hi Mole - I totally understand. I have a lot of people to buy for and there's a lot of pressure in my family to be extravagant. The best things in life may be free but they don't count for much on Christmas morning in our house!!

Totally feel where you're all coming from! This is my 1st post IVA Xmas, and I've amazed myself by not going mad on presents even though I've got a bit more spare cash. Seems lessons learned on budgeting for 5 years are hard to break :)

Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas with your loved ones and a very happy new year

It took us a good year or more to really get control of our budget but once you get used to it it's actually quite empowering! We too have bought all the pressies and food in cash and are looking forward to the festive season! Seeing other people out in the shops swiping the plastic makes me feel almost superior!

We have just done the food shop and paid cash. Our presents now are very frugal and mostly funded by surveys.
