Hi All
Just thought I would let you know how we went on yesterday. We met with Andy Platt who works for Tony Fisher at debtfocus.
I had better explain a bit more before I begin. We had met with Tony Fisher (IP) previously when we initially lost our business and our house, we were introduced to him by financial advisor - John Horrocks (Great man but thats another story) he did advise us on our personal debt at the time but to be honest at that time I was on information overload and on the verge of a breakdown, however I do remember he across as a genuine person which is why we got back in touch.
Andy explained in detail the differences between the IVA and BR but to be honest I had done so much research I already had this info ( Sorry Andy) the main question I needed to know was which was right for us. Andy excelled himself here and instead of trying to talk me into anything he quite bluntly (but in a nice way) explained the action of each decision ( won't bore you with the details) we have decided to try to go down the IVA route. I don't feel Andy has kept anything from us, to be honest we bombarded him with so questions the poor thing didn't have a choice, we had at the ready details of our income and had drafted a rough guide to our outgoings. Andy is currently putting some figures together and is due to ring me tomorrow, so fingers crossed it will be good news? Nothing is finalized yet but I can't tell you how much better I feel. Can I just say a big Thank you to all those who responded to my plea for 'a Friend' ( Can't tell you how down I was at the time) It was so nice to hear from you all. Can't say I am out of the woods yet but feel now as though I have finally found a path and the bonus is - I have company !! THANKS Will keep you posted

Well done! I am glad the meeting was so positive and that you are feeling more in control. I am sure, as facts sink in, there will be many questions, but you are in good company here and between us we can come up with answers and support.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014

You certainly sound as if you have had the right experience from your choice of professional. IPs and their staff should never force any client down one particular route, and if this chap has taken time out to explain all options to you then he is doing his job very well. You now sound as if you have the confidence to go forward, with the benefit of your own research, as I wish you the very best on your journey to debt freedom. Make sure you keep us updated of progress in the meanwhile.
Regards, Melanie Giles, Insolvency Practitioner

That's amazing news! I can't believe you went in so well prepared and armed with all the questions...poor Andy must have felt like he was getting a grilling from Paxman!! To be so in control so early on is fantastic and I hope there are others just starting out who are inspired by your post. I can't wait to hear how it goes for you
