I've no idea about if you can do it if you're in an IVA and will await an expert opinion but when I stood guarantor for my brother I only had to return a form and wasn't credit checked and I returned the form via fax to them. I knew he wouldn't default but they just needed a guarantor. x
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
I agree Julie, they would be fine. I do stand to be corrected on this if I am wrong and apologise if I am.

The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively.

I don't think you're wrong Jan, someone in an IVA shouldn't put themselves up as a guarantor. I'm just not sure what would stop them....apart from fear it could go wrong.
A guarantor has to provide financial documents to prove that, in my case, the rent can be covered for 17 months! I had to pay for my parents to have a credit check carried out on them when they became our guarantor.
Why put yourself in a situation ...concentrate on your own IVA and help your friend out in other ways. Your journey to debt feedon should be your priority and a possibility of incurring someone's is not something I would suggest while you are in this situation. Your friend I am sure will understand I am sure an would not want to jeopardize your own debt journey
