I am looking to go IVA and own my own home. One of the documents that is asked for is a Council Tax bill. The problem is that I live with my girlfriend an council tax is paid be her and the council tax bills are in her name. So even though I am going into an IVA based solely on my debts, I won't be able to produce such a document in my name.

If I explained the situation would I then not need to produce a Council Tax Bill but obviously the cost of this would then not be reflected against my list of expenses?

Any help and advice you guys have will be much appreciated.

Hi,

Not sure about this but I imagine that as long as you send a bill in for the premises it should be ok. Obviously you will only be liable for a share of the joint expenses.

Speak to your IP though and see what is acceptable.

What about your own house - who pays for the council tax there?

Hi - if you live in your own home with your girlfriend then your girlfriends documents will also be needed so you can demonstrate total household bills and that you each pay a fair share. It's nothing to worry about...just send it all in and let your IP do the hard part! xx

I read the original post as rustydatsun owns his home and lives there with his girlfriend, who's name is on the cuncil tax bills.[?]

Council tax has always been in my name and it didn't cause any problems when hubby was in IVA. As BOL says, just send the document to your IP they will work out your share for I&E.

There never usually any problems getting joint names on Ctax/utility bills. Perhaps something to think about in future, also added bonus both joint liable

I rather think that OP has his own home and I hadn't read that right in the first place.

Depends on what is happening with the other house.

I think we do need the OP to clarify the situation.

This is equaility in action ... in the old days he would have said, "I own my own house and my girlfriend lives with me" .... I think
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.

I think we need the OP to clarify this. If the OP owns the home, why would the bills be in the partners name?
