I am being made redundant at work. I have been there nearly 11 years so am ... ah ... slightly disturbed. I will be / am looking for a new post but in this economic climate & my age (55 next birthday) as well as the limitations of my ailment (MS) I am not too confident. Any idea what this will mean for my iva? I have queried my contact about a payment break until I am employed again but am not getting terribly clear answers so thought I would ask a far more reliable source ...
Sorry to hear your news teapot and I do hope you can find another job.
Will you be getting any redundancy money? You could try offering that as a full and final.
One of the experts will be along later to advise.

I haven't been through this and I'm sorry to hear you are. Stay positive about the job search. It may be your opportunity to do something that suits your condition much better. It is common for redundancy to be treated as a windfall with the exception that you can retain up to six months salary while looking for a job. Are you getting a pay out? How long have you been in the iva? xx

I am getting a payout relative to the 10 1/2 years I have been there so am relieved to hear that I will be able to keep it to live on while I search ... my iva is relatively new ... I have only made 6 payments.
it is difficult enough to get a job these days without having such a small search area as I cannot drive nor walk very far ... sigh
Have a chat with your IP teapot, I'm sure they will be sympathetic.

Welcome to the forum Teapot. Never good news when job losses are mentioned on the forum, sorry about that. Your IP should be able to allow you to take a payment break but are you able to afford other priority payments when you stop earning??

Discharged today the 8th feb 2012. View is much brighter now.

Teapot should be able to retain up to six months payment from the redundancy to fund normal payments until (hopefully) a new job is found.

I just wanted to say that my Mum was made redundant a couple of years ago at a similar age to you and is enjoying a long-term temporary job. She has been there for a couple of years now and wouldn't think about leaving for something permanant. I hope this gives you some hope. x
Fingers crossed that you can sort something out Teapot.
