I have been meaning to get some advice on how to manage my overwhelming debts but I don't know where and how to begin. I have a total debt of £50,000. I find it difficult to pay and having sleepless nights worrying. I have heard of this forum and has enlightened me a little, that there might be hope for me available, but I don't know how to begin and which IVA company I should go for. I really need some advice,please.
There certainly will be a solution out there for you but best to have as much info behind you as possible in order to make the decision that is right for you. Please visit www.iva.com for a list of companies (with reviews). Give 2 or 3 of them a ring, they will give you free and impartial advice on your situation and hopefully help you determine what is right for you.
We have all been or are where you are right now. You're not on your own.
There is lots of support on this forum so do keep posting and let us know how you get on.

Speak to a few companies - take time to read everything you are sent. Dont feel pressurised by any company to make a decision. Find the right soluation for you.
Hi Mia, gosh your post was me 6 months ago, we have debts of £57k and only last week had our IVA approved and can now finally work towards getting free of this.
Please please, contact a few companies in Judo's post and get some advice, there will be a solution to suit you, it's a scary road, the one you're on at the moment, and you can't see an end to it but trust me, there will be a solution that is right for you.
I still can't believe how I spent so many years thinking I must protect my credit rating, it's laughable really!, so we struggled on regardless instead of just sorting it out.

I can only mirror what the other posters have said by taking a look at the link & contacting 2/3 that you like the look off.
Making the first call is the hardest but they will be sympathetic & understanding. You will feel better knowing what options are out there for you.

Its not easy to face reality at times, but its certainly the best decision weve made I just wish we'd done it years sooner and found the website earlier than we did.Good luck on whatever path you choose. Hi Mia and a big welcome from me too, i was in your situation a little under 4 years ago but made that final decision to do something about it and have never looked back to be honest. Sound advice from everyone, look at various companies. Good luck for the future, the support network is here if you need it. xxxx

IVA COMPLETED August 2012, received Completion certificate 18.4.13.
Hi Mia, those first steps are the hardest thing I have done. I had £56k & was robbing Peter to pay Paul - not good. An IVA is far from a walk in the park but these last 7 months have been much better. I did work 60 hour weeks to service the debt but that didn't work!! Now 40-48 hours a week I spend mote time with my family. This forum is an excellent resource & has really helped me although I don't post alot. As others have said speak to a few companies no one is going to judge you.
The road is 72months long starting September 2010.
I can imagine that those debt feel completely overwhelming to you, and that you cannot see light at the end of the tunnel, but I see people like you every single day of the week, and with good advice and commitment on their parts those debts - which are around average for an IVA these days - will soon become manageable. They key is to getting good professional advice about all options at an early stage, and taking time to think through which one represents the best solution to get you eventually to where you want to be - ie debt free.

Hi, I can only echo what has been said above - I looked on this website and the IVA.Com website for weeks before I plucked up the courage to make that first phonecall and that was the first night I had a full nights sleep in a long time - 6 weeks later my IVA was approved and the relief is immense. I'm only at the very start of the journey but I know that I can now budget and I'm sure it won't be a smooth sailing for the full 5 years but I'm in such a better position that I was 2 months ago!.
Be brave and make this first call - you won't regret it
