my wife is looking at returning back to work as our children are growing up now and she is not needed at home as much as before, my question is are there any guidlines that an IP has to follow with regards to her wages as part of the household income, i completly understand that her income has to be used with the household expenditure which in theory would increase the amount i can afford to pay, my worry is how much of her wages should be taken into household bills as i think it is unfair if 100% of her wages would go towards bills. The IVA is in my name only by the way
It would depend how much she is earning in relation to you, so if you both found you had the same monthly income then your household bills would be split 50/50, is she earned 25% less than you then the bills would be split 75/25 if that makes sense.
As Lem correctly points out - the division of household expenditure is generally worked out on the same basis as your respective earnings ratios - so the more she earns the more she will pay to the shared bills, hence the less you will pay which may create a larger disposable income for the benefit of your creditors.
