I am looking for advice on renting, looking over the form i have been bale to find advice on renting a house. I have spoken with some agencys and they would be willing to let me rent even though i am in a IVA. But i would have to pay 6 months rent upfront, or a guarantor. This is something that i should be able to do, so getting the house would seem possible.
The concern that I have now is utilities. Things like Electric & Gas, Water, Rates and Sky (broadband) How do these types of company react to people in a IVA, is it still possible to get account with them. I Have check uswicth for best energy rates, and my bank does allow DD, but i worry that if they do a credit check then i would not be able to get these deals.
Does anyone have any advice or experience in getting things deals like these?
You should have no problem with the rental by the sounds of it.
As regards utilities then you can always stick with the ones you have and just transfer them across to the new address.
If you did want to switch then I know a lot of our posters have done so.
If you are starting from scratch then I believe you will be ok.

Thanks for the reply, I would be starting from starch with regards, so would be a new account.
I was not sure if the carr out credit checks for new customers?
Everyone needs utilities so you could always have a meter fitted where you get one of them key things pre-paid I believe? Can you have these for gas as well I'm not sure to be honest but someone may know.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.
Hi there, we have moved during our IVA and had to set up some new accounts with various providers, we were fine with N power but failed the credit check for BT to pay monthly but all they asked us to do was pay a deposit and then they gave us it back after six months. There are ways round it all i am always very upfront rather than wasting their time and mine, most places dont actaully know if it will affect things or not. We also changed car insurance and we pay monthly for that and that didnt seem to be an issue either. You should be fine!
yes you can have pay as you go meters for gas and electric but we found them very expensive so had them removed during the IVA and had no problem going onto montly DDs.
I think they will carry out credit checks but I would avoid British Gas as they are known for putting people on a high tariff if you are in an IVA.
You could always phone up companies now and just enquire as to what their position is with regards to an IVA.

Hi, you shouldn't have a problem. My experience (and I have moved and changed provider 4 times since in an iva) is that bt do credit checks. The other gas elec providers in my case did not. The only problem we had was once having pre payment meters ( and ours were set at a normal rate and worked out the same as bills) you may have a problem witching back to meters. They wanted deposits in some cases. Try and transfer your original providers to your new address if possible. We had no problem with this and no checks were done. As a rule I do not tell people I am in an iva unless asked. That's my business. Some people do. Its up to you. Good luck
