First Direct were awful with us ... They gave 14 days notice of closing the account and then closed in on day 10.

Definitely worth opening a new account at the outset of starting your IVA process even if you then use it to budget your money.

hi. went to Barclays on Sat morning and they were brilliant, even made me a cup of tea, that might have been caused I burst into tears but it was very welcome. New account set up only things is we have to change out direct debits ourselves, they are introducing a service at the end of Sept but obviously we couldn't wait that long. Managed to do some over internet, written and rang others. feel abit better now.

Glad you're getting sorted, hopefully those direct debits won't take long to get transferred over.
IVA final payment left the bank on the 26th January 2013...looking forward to a debt free future.

thank you, always though 13 was my lucky number being born on that date but this year certainly has not been the best. Husband made redundant for second time in 14 months, both Mums been very poorly not sure I can cope with anything else. Have got comfort from reading peoples blogs though. Makes you realise that things do get better and as my daughter says what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I have tried to set up a blog but obviously not doing it right, any suggestions?

Can't help you with the blog as I'm practically technologically illiterate but I can send you positive vibes and hope things improve for you.
Life after IVA is wonderful.

Hi all first post here and nearly in an IVA, we were previously badly advised and have opened a basic account with HSBC we are now in a position where we have transferred all DD's etc and have been advised that HSBC are not the way forward. We asked the banks employees when we opened the account and were assured that an IVA would not be a problem as long as we did not miss payments. We have also spoken to their telephone advisors and been advised the same! Help? Do we need to change banks again or do we just wait it out. We have no debt connected with HSBC and are in Northern Ireland so have slightly more limited options than the rest of GB

Thanks

Hi Tim, and welcome. If I were you I would at least open a "lifeboat" account somewhere ... possibly a Co-Op Cashminder ( do they operate over there? )or have a look at the Yorkshire Building Society Cash Transactor account --- better to have an alternative at the ready just in case.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014

Hi Tim

If it helps we have been with HSBC since before the IVA - joint current account - no overdraft of course. I also have a separate individual account with HSBC too.

Despite the problems others have had, we have never had any problem with HSBC, and this includes paying our IVA from the account!

That said we also opened a NatWest account and a Co-op account too which we just keep nominal amounts in to keep them going so as to be sure if anything ever happened with HSBC we do have back up accounts just in case - however 5 years in so far and haven't needed them yet (touch wood and possibly not best date to risk jinxing this lol) [:)]
