We are in a joint IVA (in 3rd year). A relative has said they will pay for our urgently-needed car repairs (we only have 1 car) but the relative has, by mistake, paid cash from their bank account (in their home branch) to my partner's pre-IVA bank account (same bank but different branch). The relative's branch are saying that nothing can be done unless the receiving bank (same bank!) return or reject the pay in. Please can you advise asap what the best course of action is here as (a) we don't want our relative to lose a substantial amount of money and (b) the car still needs urgent repair so that my partner can get to work. Many thanks.

I asked the lady dealing with creditors claims to assist me when I had expenses paid into my old current account in error. Given your 3 years in I'd ask your day to day contact at IP
In my case the bank adjusted the overdraft to allow the money to be transferred out using internet banking

Many thanks,Martin. That's reassuring.
Grant Thornton are dealing with the IVA and usually take up to a month to get back to us but hopefully quicker in this instance!

I forgot about my DLA Christmas Bonus when in an IVA and it just bounced back to DWP after 10 days from the bank.
Hopefully this will happen to your relative but you are within your rights to request it back if the account was frozen/no longer in use.
