Full and final. We'll our full and final offer has been accepted this week and what a journey it has been. It has been a real hard struggle harder than we ever imagined. We have three children all in various points of education and the lack of money has been crippling. The house us now in a very poor state of repair. It is probably going to take three or four years to get it in order. The list of things needing replaced are endless. The double glazing is misted on most windows non Hoover. The only shower is broken and has been for three years. The back gate is hanging off the father window broken. And the decor is horrendous. The list goes. I can honestly say we have not had a spare penny for four and half years. We have not been out socially for any occasion since iva started. We reAlly felt our various cSe workers was working for the creditors only and not both parties. We wish we had given the house back at the beginning and paid off what we could. I understand everyone's experience is different but don't know that we would recommend to anyone. Over now and tomorrow is a another dAy.

Yes, Michelle, everybody's journey is different, as are the ways IP's operate. Personally I would avoid the IVA factories like the plague -- but they do have many happy clients as well (one man's meat and all that).

Anyway -- the important message is all in your last sentence .... Tomorrow IS another day -- and a debt free one at that :-)

Onward and upward.
My opinions are merely that .. opinions based on experience. Always seek professional advice.
IVA Completed 23rd July 2013 .... C.C. 10th January 2014

I can totally sympathise, it has been crippling for us too. It has taught us a very harsh lesson though that you should live to your means and that credit should be reserved for essential things only like a mortgage and a car. We will never go back to our old ways, if we want something we will save for it.

I do agree with the sentiment though that the odds seem totally stacked in favour of creditors. If you earn more in a month you hand over 50% but if things are tight one month it's tough and you have to struggle.

We contemplated handing our house back at the start as we are still saddled with a huge mortgage on a very high rate and in negative equity. I do think long terms that would have been a bad choice and can't wait until we are clear of our IVA

Thank you all for your kind words. I know things can only get better and it is easy to give up on the journey.

I totally empathise with you, mab. But life after iva is so much better than life before. We are gradually working on our very neglected house and it's brilliant to know that we don't owe anybody for the things being done as we are saving up for each 'phase'. The lesson learnt from 6 years of iva!!
Life after IVA is wonderful.

Sounds great wiggle1. Thought we would be ecstatic when it was over but we aren't. Planning what each months iva payment will do in the house or Christmas or birthdays for the children. Sure not going to waste a penny! X

Amazing and such and inspiration, we are 10 months away from the end of a 6 year IVA and not sure if I could have my time again I would go down the same route x

Well done and totally know where your coming from. At least you know the nightmare is over. It can be an anti-climax when its all over. Its a very tiring process for some and I was not in the mood for celebrating either when I completed mine. Hope you enjoy your debt free future.

It does seem that some IP firms are out to hammer their clients and maximise the fees and return to creditors. This appears to be more common among the bank funded sector rather than the independent firms so which firm did you use?

Payplan are funded by the banks and are therefore one of the firms they recommend. It is always worth getting a second opinion from the independent sector.

Wishing you the best of luck in your debt free future. Hopefully we wont be too long behind you. Can sympathise its certainly no easy task an iva our house too is in need of lots of work but trying to see positive out of it that it will hopefully reflect in the price so we wont need to extend a further year.
