I am feeling deflated have just got out completion certificate after 8 long years went to my bank to ask if I could seek some financial advice as to how to improve my credit the lady took my card and after a while returned saying nothing they could o for us and did we realise that people that have been on the insolvency record still cant get credit 7 years later I wasn't asking for credit I was asking for advice is this true that even though we did not go bankrupt we will never be able to get out life back on track if this is the case we might as well of gone bankrupt 8 years ago instead of struggling like we have to meet payments and keep a family of 3 children.

I think you've probably been given bad advice here as I've seen posters on the forum who have managed to clear up their credit file AND get credit. I'm sure someone will be along soon to confirm this.

This is nonsense and perhaps it is time to switch banks. They obviously know about the IVA but a new one would not and would be delighted with your business.

Some banks still operate draconian policies and should be avoided. Of course this could simply be the jaded views of the branch staff concerned and not bank policy, but it would be interesting to know which bank.

As Michael says -- switch banks .

Hi Foggy

It is Nat West we have been with them for 9 yrs. I have complained to their head office today they are looking into it !!!. I only went for advice not sure what to do now to improve our credit score we are still on the insolvency register even though we settled the IVA October 2013 we have only just got our completion certificate so its been a long difficult journey which we are glad to have completed.

Hi Bev. There's some general info regarding clear ups here:

You should come off the IR within three months of the issue of the certificate.
